Hi all just got my new to me 2010 Fe570 it has 40hrs and 1600k's on it.
I have run mobil one oil in my xr650r for 2years and put 9000k's on it with no valve wear and the engine seems as fresh as when I bought it.(i always run the mobil 1 for bikes not car mobil 1)
I know motorex is recommended for the berg but i would like to run mobil 1 as it is fully synthetic.
Thanks for your thoughts and opinions.

Use the search function, there have been some awesome threads about which oil to run. Personally I run delo and its been good in both my bergs, and 20l costs as much as 4l of motorex. 8)

Mobil 1 is a good choice and a good oil, im considering using it in bulk for my workshop, its a bit cheaper than most and we found that gear shifting is smoother with it, we ran out of Motorex when i had a young gun racer on one of my 650 FE bikes at Finke one year, put in Mobil 1 full syn and he said it seemed smoother. Some shops dont stock it which is a shame. Give the distributor Carlisle a ring 02 98204444 and find a stockist, i still have it.
ORANGEBERG

The valve follower bearings in my 501 wore out heaps faster with M1 R4T than with Delo 400 used subsequently.

Thanks for all the input. Is delo 400 full synthetic?Does it have any friction modifiers in it?STEVE why do you think you had more wear with mobil 1?
Thanks all

I've posted about this a few times now:

Engine Oil
I've run Delo 400 in my FE501 for some years after originally running Mobil 1 Racing T. Durability of the valve gear is definitely superior, rollers have lasted nearly twice as long so its Delo400 for the 650 after a couple of changes of Repco/Mobil 15/40 mineral, 3 changes in 3 hours to bed the rings. I've had personal experience of glazed bores when my new road bike was delivered with full synthetic without my knowledge. We've even here at work in the fleet had new Toyotas and Subarus with glazed bores and excessive oil consumption from being driven too gently when new.

With my new bike I immediately dumped the Motorex and went through the break in as discussed above and am now on Delo 400. Do a search on this site and you will find that Husaberg luminary Dale Lineaweaver recommends it and previously sold an almost identical version as Husaberg Oil in the US. Many Bergers use the Delo 400 with no reported problems to my knowledge. Others feel comfortable buying an expensive, 'motorcycle' oil. Each to their own.

My 501 now has almost 500 hours on it with the original clutch, no problems with it or yet with the 650 clutch.

Delo 400 is cheap and works and as liitle is used in Bergs you can afford to change it often.

Its a semi synthetic and I use it in all my dirt bikes and my tractor. The last 20 l drums I got were, I think, $86 ea.

The argument/hypothesis in favour of semi synthetics and minerals is that they force rolling element bearings to roll rather than skidding which the more slippery synthetics can do, hence improving durability.

Thanks for your detailed info,I would still like to go with mobil 1 as i have has great success with it, the only thing that bothers me now is the weight of the oil. They make a 20w-50 and a 10w-40 i live in Nsw and ride in mostly in hot weather.Wich weight would be the best for my conditions. Thanks all

The Mobil 1 R4T sold here is 15/50 only to the best on my knowledge?

I should also add that the older Bergs wore out roller follower bearings by design. The service manual recommended a 150 hr change out, and I let it go a bit long and did the camshaft too. They changed the bearings in about 2003 and that seems to have resolved the issue. My 501 still has the original design, and with 500 odd hours and 33,000 or so kms total has over twice the hours on the rollers than the first set. The only difference was the change to Delo 400 at the time, unless there was some issue from new that I hadn't identified with them.

The old girl doesn't get much use these days, but i had it out the other day for 1/2 hour to blow the cobwebs off it and it still goes great.

PS,
I used the M1 R4T in my ZX9R for 160,000 kms of road and track and continue to use it in my 1400GTR on the assumption that the plain bearing motors are ideal for synthetics, but the rolling element engines like dirt bikes are better of with minerals or semis.

Who really knows?

I break in all my engines (street and dirt) with a good quality, non-sythetic, motorcycle-specific oil.
The one that I have been using is Honda GN4 10W-40.

After break-in is complete, I change over to Mobil 1 4T Racing oil (full-synthetic, motorcycle-specific).
I have been *extremely* happy with the performance of the M1 4T oil! Both of my VFRs have over 42,000 miles on them and the cam/follower still look almost brandy-new. Have also had excellent performance on the dirt bike side of things as well.

Cheers! E-Ticket
