Just did a oil change after about 5 hrs of riding time and noticed alot of metal in my oil, change oil every ride always have some metal but not this much (getting nervous) I run syntec 5-50. Total hrs on engine is 15. Bike is a 97 fe-400 could the clutch plates be getting warn causing more metal in the oil ?

There is often a bit of metal when you change certain parts. So what do you call a lot? Can you take a photo next time?

You can always inspect your clutch plates and see for yourself.

Thanks Lefrog,
I let it drain over night, the pan had a layer across the bottem mostly small but some bigger than I am use to. Due other bikes do this also. I don't remember my 2 strokes having this amount of particals in the tranny after a half summer of riding .

No, I have had not one bike do that ever.

When I asked around the first time I saw all that in my filter and drain screen, I was told not too worry, because Husabergs are race oriented.

So each time you see something that bothers you on a Husaberg, remember: it's because of the race orientation.

Kruderocker,
Trust your "gut instinct" if you're not used to seeing this much metal in your drained oil,then something is wearing itself out.
But remember four strokes drained oil is engine oil and transmission oil! 2 strokes engine oil takes all the wear out the exhaust with it{ except for big bits which earth out on the plug!}
On a Suzuki...Once found a "hair" on my spark plug...turned out to be a shaving off the small end bearing

I think I know why there is more metal than usual, l I realized that this is the first time I ever road this bike on the street. Put a tag on a little while ago and did about 5 miles getting to the trail. Extra wear from the street.

Yeah,
I did a few 40 mile round trips on roads and my FE was showing very different signs of wear to what it showed on the pure off-road stuff! horses for courses!!! To do lots of road trips I need to use a CBR600!!! not an enduro bike!

hi guys , i changed my clutch plates and got loads of alluminium floating around, i thought i'd done something wrong so i stripped it again, the alloy bits were most concentrated on the inner clutch basket, so i am assuming that the plates are just making themselves at home.

If you don't have a magnetic drain plug, then try running a magnet through your drained oil. Anything associated with bearings will stick to the magnet.

Another source of aluminum bits can be the cam chain hitting something in the motor due to slack. As a precaution you could pull the cam chain tensioner spring bolt first, then pull the cam chain tensioner and see how much extension you have on the adjuster itself.

How about the oil screen? Was there very much stuff on it?
