hi, i'm interested in buing a megacycle cam (570-x1) for my 650, who shells them for our bikes and has anyone try one???

taffy does exchange regrinds

could also try a 8/07 crate engine cam # SMS.36.010.000

hi Bushie, have you ever try a megacycle cam or heard about them??? i think the oem '04 cam has more lift and duration than the ktm...right?

i have an x-2 grind, its nicer than the oem 08' (04) smoother power delivery more off idle tourque but everything is moved down about 1000rpm so the top end suffers.

I looked at all the 25 or so available cams on specs and decided the specs were 90% BS. check out webbcams they have a real hot one for us going on the specs.

have a look at these from Tom at Cut7 engineering .They are from left to right ktm cams 5905521 o 5521 o 5532 o 807 o Hot Cams 3015 o toms cam. EDIT BUGGER ! PIC CUT OFF AGAIN :) CLICK LINK BELOW TO SEE THE LUMPY VALVE HAMMER ON THE END

the 8-07 is suposedly very much like an LX 1

Ive not tried either but am keen to know the difference

The 807 looks a little hotter then the 5521 and 5532.
The 807 should make a difference but not such that will demand other changes to the engine.

The 3015 is evidently hotter. This will make a noticeabl edifference and should require other modifications to the engine. It will cause the power delivery to go up the revs. Considering good breathing of the engine: Open exhaust, maximum porting and valve sizes, and K&N with a VS - it should deliver very good power. Higher revs will effect reliability of course.

The toms cam, AKA valva hammer, is too extreme. It is for open race tracks and will have the power WAAAAAAAAAAY up the revs.

My .02$ based on experience with hot and VERY hot cams on KTMs, and on the photo.
Do you have the opening, closing and opening depths parameters of the 807,3015 and valve hammer?

attached a dodgy excel spreadsheet I made up in the 70's  [attachment=0:2rjdaenj]cams.xls[/attachment:2rjdaenj] (updated)

its all the info I have on cams there are things on it that are not right some of it is guesswork and other stuff is "manipulated" by the cam manfr. the measurements are not made by me or verified too much. some are measured at the cam and others at the valve I have an X-2 and an 08.

the 8/07 looks lame IMHO but they measured it at the cam not the valve so...... 24 61 55 22 int dur 265 on 108.5 centre and ex dur 257 on 106.5 centre so the X-1 has more duration and tighter centres. HC 3015 has 113/111 centres as I said though there are too many ways to measure cams and you'd need to have them all in your hot little hands before making any descisions based on the specs.

the #62 cams from webcams look very interesting but their not giving all the specs. also have a look in weeds gallery for a DHR 15 cam made for suttos

fwiw the Tom cam is reportedly very very good for a 600cc + engine up to 10 000 with a very broad spread of power/tourque and not as wild as people may assume from the pic. I agree it looks pretty radical cost is US 500 or so. he is Cut7 on ktalk if anyone needs to contact him.

The duration (257) is too short.
On my 690 LC4 (started as 620) I have a duration of 275 and 273 for in. and ex. This is measured when valves are already 1mm opened. => The actual duration should be 305-315.
This is for a rev limit of less then 8500 rpm. Max power a few hundred rpms below.

yes my cams are megacycle grinds. a torquey one and a top endish one. no problems to report as far as power goes. had one go soft on a turkish customer but it's so rare I tend to think something was going on somewhere else.

the 257 for the 8/07 is measured all **** eyed at the cam, in the bike measured at the valve with 1mm lift I beleive it is similar to the X-1

FWIW the 08 cam has a real duration of 266 but the agressive flanks and high lift make up for it.

the X-2 is much nicer off idle and much smoother power delivery than the 08 but doesn't make any more peak tourque and max power is down a bit.

depends what CC, what valve sizes, what exhaust, what what what what and what again.

a cam is like an exhaust: do you make the best you can for the standard motor or do you think ahead to when all the valves and ports are sorted?

I've had the heads flow tested and there is little point in going silly until you've done a good deal of work.
