just kidding (pulling a taffy for the post count deal :p )
pull the cover off the flywheel side, pull the sparkplug, put a 15mm socket on the flywheel nut (don't use a ratchet or you will get a big surprise when the lifter rolls off the cam  ) a tee handle works best so you can hold it against rolling past the timing point. there is a small (about2mm ) hole in the flywheel which will line up with a groove in the stator under the flywheel. the object is to place the flywheel in the timing position, which is found on the inside outer edge there are 2 marks. the left mark is tdc, the right mark is for timing (37*). with the timing mark lined up with a scribe on the case (around 11oclock), you should be able to insert a pin in the small flywheel hole and have it hit the slot on the stator. if not, you need to use a puller to remove the flywheel, the nut has lefthand threads (a puller for any early sem flywheel will work ( ktm, husky, etc)) and loosen the screws holding the stator. the slot should be at the bottom (see pic). rotate the stator until the hole lines up with the slot, retighten (loctite blue) reinstall flywheel.
