Does anybody know the real reason he took his own life?
I was at Calsbad when he had maybe the best day in the history of our sport.
The crowd went crazy with his incredible win!

Nobody is saying why yet. The closest any of the news articles came was to say that his friends stated that he was in bad pain from some bike accidents.

thanks,

Heard through the grapevine that Marty was on Vicoden for his back and may have been too into the V. Not sure about that, but I can understand. He was my hero back in school, I loved his riding style. Poor guy, things must have been bad.

I was so surprised to hear about Marty Moates.
I made the trek to Carlsbad ( my only trip there) because I really wanted to see Roger DeCoster and Bad Brad Lackey. No one expected Moates to win and the crowd went nuts. Hard for me to believe that it was 26 years ago.

Yep, bummed me out too, depression can be brought on by chronic pain, it may have been overwhelming for the man. He has always been a moto hero to me and will remain so :r: :.: :i: :.: :p:

that is sad news

i can also remember MARTY winning at carlsbad, a truly great rider .

In most suicide cases, depression is the main reason.

Stephane Roncada attempted to kill himself, he too was in a lot of pain and hooked on vikes and, in the end, worse.
