I have the 10 position mapping switch fitted (3 settings). This is a bit of a fiddle to use so I was thinking of installing the trailtech thumb operated version.

My question is do you need to turn the bike off inbetween for the different maps to take effect ? There seems little point in fitting the new switch if you do

I have been looking at ordering the trail tech map switch but some sites say they are for the 2010 and 2011 others say they are for the 09,10,and11. Same part #. I have the 09 570 and just want to make sure it will work for the 2009.
Thanks for any info.

As far as I know they're all the same, if I was in the market for a map switch again I'd go the 70 degree racing unit. I totally agree the stock one is just too fiddly.

So i sent an E-mail to trail tech asking which part number would be the proper switch for the 09 570. The response i got was that they do not make one for the 09. Why the heck not?!? How different could they be from 2009 to 2010?

They are the exact same switch. Even the Berg OEM switch is the same part number for all the years...

:iagree: Here is a picture of the connector that the Map Switch plugs into:

So the sales girl(Chandra) is wrong? I E-mailed her again to clarify and her response said" the 2010 will not work with the 2009 as the harnesses are completely different along with the electrical systems". Thanks for the photo davo. I will compare to my harness. What switches are other 09 570 guys on here running and do you like what you have? For around 100 bucks are they worth the money or is stock good enough? I love my berg but with around 100 hours now i want to get every option out of her i can.

I built my own. I didn't want to spend $70 on one of the nice ones. There are instructions on how to make them on this site - do a search.

The first two switches I used broke, so I bought a handlebar switch from SicAss Racing. It is very similar to the 70 Degree switch and the Trail Tech switch.

Personally, I think the KTM switch is total junk. It is way too hard to use on the trail. And if you have poor eyesight, you can't read the little numbers. I have read many good reviews about the 70 Degree switch. I would imagine the Trail Tech is also good. So either build your own, or pay the bucks for one that you can use.

Being in Canada the options are limited. Trail tech wants 79 dollars for the switch but insist on fed ex for shipping to Canada at 60 dollars more!(********) 70 degree is simillar cost with very crap web site. I can get a trail tech sourced in Canada but have stalled because of the 09 compatability concerns. Need to know for sure before i drop 100 bucks on a might work/ might not work unit. I hear you on the stock unit. Buddy has one and it looks like a pain. Are riders on here using the switches often or not worth the money?

Hey 09berg,

I had the dealer install the OEM switch on a 2011 FE450. As you already know, the switch is a pain to use with the crappy rubber cover and 1/8 inch rotary switch and numbers hard to read. So after you remove the gloves, fight with the cover, etc, it tends not to get used.

I then ordered the 70 degree racing one, about to be installed. They ship to Canada for a flat $10 and there was no customs delay with it.

I assume the compatibility issue is with the light and horn switch wiring cable, but if you email 70 Degree, they should be able to tell you if they have a compatible one that will work since they do ask for the bike model when ordering. The installation instructions are on their web page.

Cheers,

Blaine

Thanks Blaine. I will look more into the 70 degree switch. Do you notice much diffence in the way your bike runs from one setting to another?

I haven't used my switch very much. To me the difference seems pretty subtle, but I haven't done any significant testing.

Since I moved from a 250 to a 450 I thought I would use the soft setting most of the time, but I almost always use standard. My intent is to use soft in loose, slippery conditions, and aggressive in deep sand - but I tend to not even think about it.

When I have compared them I noticed that my rear wheel spins out more easily after shifting when in aggressive mode, so it does make some difference. If I were a more aggressive rider, I suspect I would notice the difference even more.
