Im going to try and replace my mains bearings on a FS650e 2003 myself and reading the Doc it says
“Also put the cases in the oven and the bearings in the freezer for a long time before doing this. This allows full expansion or contraction of items.”
How long is a long time and at what temp, I have a gas oven so will 45 minutes at gas mark 7 be suffice?

Heat the engine cases to around 100 to 150°c and put the bearings in the freezer for at least 3 hours+
Don't heat the cases more than 150°C

Regards

oh, 30 minutes at gas mark 3 then. thanks :D

what happens if they get to hot, do I open the oven and find a big blob in it.

it could happen but more heat could also destroy hardening or something.

what bearings are you going to go with?

I cant make up my mind as to what bearings to fit. Have read a lot about the roller bearing on one side and ball on the other but Iv not had any mains fail in the 7 years Iv had the bike so will probiblly replace the with 2 x ball bearings the 6206/C3.

what have you got in your 04 bike?

mine had two roller bearing standard and they failed.
I did rebuild it with ktm 610 crate motor bearings (ktm 560 smr)

special ball on clutch side and a roller on ignition side.
they are available from you ktm dealer

how many hours has your big end bearing lasted? im at 300h on mine.

Regards
