just after some advise on how far to lower the clamps on the fork tubes
I'm 172cm high 87kg with out gear ride 05 450 fe with heavier springs front and rear
i did lower them 22mm (12mm bar raisers) found the front a bit stiff but very stable but the back end was very skatey, i could also touch the ground alot easier.Ive moved them back up to 15mm which should even things out and make the bike more balanced
I read up on past posts and its seems 15mm is about the limit so whats the go!
I didnt have any major issues with the bikes handling in its original set up just looking to
lower it a bit

Hi bajar, everybody has there own thing on this. My view is with pds have static sag 35mm (bike standing). That is not have the back pushing. I lower forks as much as I can, for height and the older bikes to get the forks pointing more up and down (not so important on your bike). This makes it turn better than the back pushing.

Some say the springs are alwasy too soft at the back and preload just about all the free sag out. I notice you have gone heavier springs also. Experiment with the compression dampening on the forks to get the right bump and corner feel.

good luck and see what else comes in on this.

yes I'm short in the leg, 172cm x 88kg 05 450 fe
4.4 N/mm front & 85- 111/250 rear springs
i was looking at lowering the seat height but i want to know how it would effect the handling, the oriinal seat up 5mm showing through the top clamps is not a problem, just trying to make things a little easier for a 40 year old

well you may have read that i put 14mm offset clamps on and shot the forks through 15mm straight away. the limit is the tyre touching the exhaust, the tyre touching the underside of the mudguard and also the front end weaving over a series of bumps/braking.

there is a washer you can have put in the rear shock that will lower it. try taking some out of the seat.

i borrowed a members bike one afternoon two years ago when i had a puncture. it was funny because it was one of those "wave your sensor infront of the metre" and so i rode with his numbers on. anyway, colin is 5' 0" and has a lump out of the middle of his.

got on ok but it was stuff on the ol bum-had to stand for everything. did 3/3 fastest ST's of the day though out of 100 riders so it couldn't have been too bad could it!

regards

Taffy
