my 02 front brake lacks so much bite and power (and it's been getting worse) that i finally decided to do something about it. the rotor appears very smooth and polished with no grooved texture and i wonder if it's just too hard. i don't recall folks complaining of bad rotors on ktms or husabergs of this vintage......

Change break fluid and change to better break pads should do it if you don't have anything wrong with your break system, also check so you don't have any air in the system :)

As Slime says give it a good bleed then check the pads etc. My 02 doesn't go hard at the lever but will easilly lock up the front wheel on dirt or tarmac/asphalt.

Also check that the capiler moves freely on the slide pins, the upper pin can rust and seize in the bushing, this will effectivly cut your braking power in half.

And give the disc and new pads a scrub with some emery cloth or steel wool first. Make sure the pistions in the caliper are moving freely and no crap is under the dust seals, and sliding pins are properly lubed with a little high temp antiseize, and the caliber moves freely from side to side. Make sure there are no significant notches in the pad retaining pin, or just put a new one in too, lubed with a little high temp antiseize too.

I put this together previously, might help:
