Currently i have a 1990 bike, i really think i'd like to buy a new one ('05 model), but all the new ones i've seen have impressed on me one thing... how bloody quiet they are, i was in Andy Mitchells garage the other week and he started one of his bikes up and it was like a pussycat purring!. I like my noise and abuse, when i start up my old 501 the walls of the house nearly fall down and when you open her up the tarmac nearly comes up behind you! Can i get a new bike and make it sound like this?

obviously daddy is having a joke with us all at a time when tracks and trails all over the uk are getting shut down because of excessive noise.

hhhmmm.... i reserve the right to a noisy bike, i dont and wont ride at tracks and my bikes not a road bike so i dont ride trails, i like noise!!!

ah! so you just sit in your garage with the engine running to listen to the noise or your a lucky sod with your own country estate to ride around.

the sound of a 90's berg on the cam was what attracted me to them in the first place. had a couple of aftermarket pipes on the 400, but just picked up another 400 with the stock pipe and its like a symphony at 8 grand :D.

Yes!

I do such a modification several times each month.
You may perform said operation yourself as well.

(1) Remove all of the internals of the OEM muffler.
(2) Install a wrapped 1 3/4" to 2" perforated core glass pack inside
said muffler. (Doing such also gets rid of the "Krizman" spark
arrestor which is quite restrictive)
(3) Fabricate a nice end cap from billet Aluminum to get rid of the ugly
stainless unit which hides under the OE carbon Fiber cover.
(4) When you need a spark arrestor and / or to snuff the noise simply
attach a universal unit such as a "SparKy" or "Supertrapp" over the
end.

Personally I purchase an automotive glass pack and gut it for the parts. Said parts are heavy and of high quality.

To date said modification has out performed any aftermarket unit I have tested.

Best Regards,
Dale

Just what we need is louder exhausts.....just what the doctor ordered!

Hi Chas,
Speaking of "what the doctor ordered"

Noise is part of our heritage.
Yes, I am full aware of the repercussions.

Strangely enough, I get the cry baby 40 year old "doctors" and lawyers with their brand new $30K Harley looking for more noise every week.

Personally, nothing sounds so sweet as a well tuned 45 inch Triumph with TT pipes @ 8K rpm. :D

Perhaps we should ban knobbies completely as to further reduce land erosion. Such would nicely compliment our environmental friendly exhaust systems.

It is an "offroad" thing as many of the rule makers are riding loud cruisers.

That is a great idea. I once proposed that in a CA OHV commission meeting, where everyone who rides on public land should have to use trials tires, and the DB limit lowered down to the 80's db range.

Great idea!
While we are at it let's ban all motor vehicles five years and older, rock bands and Doctor Phil.

Yes!!! And burn that den of iniquity, Hollywood, CA to the ground! Oh, and ban violent video games, too! Females everywhere, say no to hoe clothes! Resurrect the Victorian age!

both the british an american governments are very good at giving ammo to their enemies to fire back at them later. (literally)
i guess were just going to follow the governments example then?

No i live in a small pit village in yorkshire (it is an estate in the country that i get to ride around, a council estate :D )that hasn't seen a police car for 50 years so i ride where i like with no complaints and if they ever do venture into the area and try to supress my noise they can kiss my *** and just try to catch me!

Thanks for the advice Dale sounds like a plan to me.

Regards
Mark
