Hi guys, been lurking on the forumns for awhile and cant find an answer. Have an 07 fs550e, was riding the other day, was doing a wheeling and when i sat it down i noticed it was making a loud ticking noise, rode home bike seemed normal. Seems to start/run fine, but ticks loud and vibrates, power is same as before. Pulled the valve cover, rocker arm bearings seem fine, camchain tensioner was at about half way, valves clearance was good. Only thing i noticed was cam chain has quite a bit of side to side slop on a few links. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lurking for a long time.

I don't have a solution, but I noticed a tick in mine today too. It goes away as the revs increase, but low revs it's present. I am going to check valve clearance next.

Where in Canada are you?

Check oil pressure. Did you damage the oil pump while in the wheelie? Lack of oil to the pump while vertical? Just a though

How would i go about checking the oil pressure? Never had an oil pump apart, is it obvious when they fail?

Usually the engine seizes when they fail. I am not sure if this model has any issues with oiling. A pressure gauge to check oil pressure from any pressure port and if none use of a old oil filter cover tapped and fitted to a pressure gauge works, the oil pumps are quite simple to work on. Can you use a mechanics stethoscope to isolate the noise. Top end or bottom? I was throwing an idea that the top end might not be getting oil as per the ticking.

+1 on isolating the noise. Top or bottom end. It could also be your timing chain. Check the tentioner to see if it's in all the way.

When I bought my fs650 there was a loud ticking noise at idle and vibrated more than usual LOL. No loss of power. When I would Rev it at a standstill it would almost sound like a clunk. Needless to say I bought that bike for cheap.

Oil pump isn't hard to get to. You can check it with the engine in the frame.

Mine sounds like this. Goes away as the revs increase. My engine is fresh rebuilt, so I wouldn't be overly concerned. Does sound like valve train though.

The bergs are noisy. I checked my valve clearance yesterday just to be sure. They were fine and after re-setting the valve clearances, the sound is still there.

I believe its the top end, will go out and buy a stethoscope to make sure, then i will go from there. Sounds just like this which to me sounds like valvetrain.

you don't need a stethoscope, you just need a length of tubing or a screwdriver.
