Hi, I have a 2004 FS650... 2 of my friends have the same, and we do alot of long wheelies, the 2 other bikes just got motor damage.. some say that we can't do these long wheelies cause the engine won't get oil... Anybody know if this is true. My bike still runs great and I have been doing a lot of wheelies...

This guy seems to have no problem doing it.

However, logic would dictate that a motor would not lubricate as intended sitting at a 90% angle from it's normal position, so if you're destroying engines, it really would be little wonder. I don't know where the pickup tube is located, but I'm pretty sure that the piston and cylinder aren't getting as much of an oil bath as was intended at the factory.

Maybe someone with a better understanding of the internals can give you a definitive answer, but it seems like a risky proposition to me.

thanks,

5 Miles is a long wheely. I usually only get a km at most, but think that you would not damage the motor because you usually are at low revs and the oil does splash around a lot. think if you wer riding up a steep hill. I suspect the motor damage may be from using the brake to control the wheely not the throttle more. I also suspect the damage may be if someone drops the clutch hard or thashes the motor. If you get the wheel up and balance well as you must for a 5 km wheely then I think it should be ok, but it would be good to hear from others.

Do you take one hand off the bars?

I try to do the wheelies at low rpm and I do use the rear brake to control it and slow it down.
So far I don't take one hand off the bars... but have to practice that.. :)

The guy on the video is doing nice long wheelie, but the angle is not that bad as when I do it....

what I have found the most dangerous about riding bergs is when you go for a long trail ride and come out near a pub where there is some mean bikies drinking with those nice looking girls that always seem to be with them. When this happens I always pull a wheely. The induction sound and that wheeling sound gets a lot of looks. I then take my hand off the bars and blow a kiss to the most attractive girl that is looking. I then head immediately for the dirt and we power off never to be seen again. If the main bearing goes in these situations it could be messy..... no problems yet.

We will take a look at one of the disassembled engines and see how bad/good it is, maybe we can modify it a bit...

Well after looking at the disassembled engine we noted that is is not that easy to modify the oil pickup... but if there is enough oil on the motor.. like to the top of the oil glass it should be ok. We just have to be carefull and check the oil every day...

That is definately perfect wheelie music,as soon as I heard it I wanted to go out and bust out some wheelies :D
