like sparks, i found dales needle too rich but even on C1. so i had a bit lopped off the bottom while on the top i had the top lopped and a central hole axially made. then i had an insert made with all new clip positions on it.

the bottom 2 (clips 6 and 7) clips on this needle are level with the old first 1 and 2.

so C1 of old is the same as C6 now.

The answer is simple the straight is to thin (rich) and the straight is to long before it comes onto the taper, the richness of the straight is making up for this down fall.
And what you have done Taffy is exaggerate this even more.
The taper should start to come in at 1/4 throttle, with Dales it's around a 1/3 and with your mod Taffy even higher.
My best results so far is the DMS on clip 1 or the CVS on clip 2 which I am currently using with a 38PJ and 1/2 a turn out on the PAS, FS 1 turn out.

no sparks!

the needle is too rich on the straight as i first said to you but its the midrange where she's really juiced up. so now i can drop the thing 5 new clip positions. this will make the width weaker than at present. as for the taper start, i never had problem. its either a 'C' or a 'D' taper but because it was machined in a lathe by hand it all depends on whether you think the taper is the 3.30 at wincanton or haddock!

i never had any trouble with the taper start and i presume you mean a 'stumble'. the needle straight was always rich as you say and it always delivered.
