hi all,

new to the site and new to 'bergdom having bought my first one (2002 fs650e) just the other day and I think im in love.... :)

Anyway, my bike has had all the electric start gubbins removed and as my left leg isnt what it used to be I was wondering if anyone has any advice on retro fitting this?

Cheers :)

If you absolutely must re-install the e-start system I would:

Use the 04-05 550/650 starter and bracket (a little bigger)

Install a new autodecompression device (prone to wear)

Get a new Yuasa YTZ7S battery and possibly get a second battery and start on 24volts.

Adjust the exhaust valves a bit tighter than the intake.

Pray like mad.

If you have all the e-start parts it may be worthwhile but if you don't I wouldn't bother as the 650 is one big motor to get started on a weak (they call it a restarter for a reason) system. Another issue at play here is the SEM ignition must spin up to a certain RPM or it won't spark.

I would enjoy the bike for what it is and eventually get a 04 up 450-550 if e-starting is a priority.

If you are hell bent on getting your bike to start on the button there has been plenty written on the subject.

cheers mate - sounds like a doddle (not!) maybe ill just get a new leg fitted instead.

I appreciate that there has prob been lots of posts about this type of thing, before I posted I read through the earlier boards till my eyes bled, but couldnt find the answer I was lookin for

My kick strarting technique has definately improved since yesterday, so I think I can add another point to the 'Hard Starting Guide' - practice makes perfect!!
