hello everyone just wondered if anyone has any ideas my 06 fe has a leak comming from the seam on the oil sump . i know to fix it properly would require a full strip down but as the bikes running fine i really dont want to do this. ive tried covering the seam with all kinds of e- metal and silicone products but when the oil gets hot it always finds a way through. does anyone know of any products i could try or any other ways of fixing it any ideas would be most welcome.

maybe a product called Devcon alluminium putty, ive used it to seal cracked radiators before. you must thouroughly clean the surface and scratch back to bare metal plus have no oil present.
It takes a while to dry but you can speed up the process with a light heat, and you simply spit on your finger and rub over for a smooth finish. Worked for me????

I use epoxy a lot its a bit tricky when there is oil involved

the one tip i can give with it on engines etc is to use a quality petro chemical based degreaser first to dilute the oily residue then use a water based degreaser. the absolute best is called floorprep made by phoenix paints near perth.

then rough up the alloy with really coarse paper or a dremel type bur and degrease again with the water based degreaser also if the leak is under the engine you want it upside down when you put the epoxy on.

you also have to have a thick enough build up of epoxy and filler to maintain its integrity.

threebond 1207B is also very good for leaky cases though if its under the engine you'd need to run a bashplate.
