Hi - looking for recommendations.
I've got the bits together to put a KTM LC640 single motor in an Aprilia RS250 bike (ie - keep most of the latter). Slightly on the heavy side, but should still be very good for a track bike. The biggest stumbling block is the RHS chain of the european singles such as this KTM - So !! any ideas? has anyone got specific suggestions as to alterations to the std swingarm or fabrication of a new one that wont cost me a second mortgage ? all ideas/options welcome. Thanks. Ian.

G'day Ian
Personally I would have thought that the Aprilia would be quite good on the track as it is. They handle superbly and have a good amount of power for the smaller rider. Reckon you're only gonna cause yourself a lot of headaches. Firstly, is the KTM engine going to fit? If so,what handling issues will you have? I would leave the RS250 as is or spend my money on a 600 that is track ready.
That's my 2 cents.

Stay with the original Suzuki Engine, get a Jolly Moto Exhaust, higher footpegs and have fun...
Ah: don´t forget to overwork the exhaust valve for Racetrack use. -or you´ll order new cylinders and pistons
Believe me, you´ll love this Aprilia a LOT

This is a rather tough problem to fix. That was the reason for me to choose a Honda RS250 chassie in the first place. Well there was the GP Aprilia too, but the cost...

2 options for you:
1. Find a good aluminium welder and chop the swing arm up. Do it now so the aluminum has time to harden before the season starts.
2. Find a "symmetrical" swingarm at the scrapyard and adapt.

HI I have built several Aprilia/Ktm bikes and when using the lc4 motor i find the rs 125 chassis is preferable. The chain is already on the same side, the motor is a good fit fit and the whole package is lighter than when using the 250 chassis.Ssupension needs upgrading- i use a nitron shock and heavier fork springs and the rear wheel from a duke 2 in order to get a more robust cush drive. Hope this helps.

have all tha bracketson the top of the swingarm welded underneath on the opposite side.

regards

Taffy

The new (2006+) husky TE610 engines are worth considering.
Should be similar power to the LC4, but a bit smoother and have 6 gears too.
Chain is on the left side.

If it's for track stuff mainly and just road fun I'd say f*** it and go for a light weight comp enduro engine :).
