just wondered if anyone has fitted those cool ktm fuel taps that you twist from underneath?

i'd love one on the left especially but i should think it would hit the frame.

Good on ya Taff !
I read your post and as much as I tried to resist, I just had to get up off the couch and go out to the shed and check out my 03 Berg and my 04 300 EXC. I think the KTM tap will fit the LHS, when it is ON it faces the outlet which is in the same position as bergs, OFF points it back towards the shock and RES points it 180 degrees from the on position. I do not think it will hit the frame.
I do not understand the attraction on the LHS fitment. The RHS berg taps are the ones that give us minor issues, getting grit and rubbish thrown off the front wheel and requiring constant cleaning and attention
The only attraction of the KTM tap I see is staying nice and smooth due to its upside down fitment, and std. reserve tube/mesh filter. Am I missing anything else ?

can't reach the flaming pipe to put it on and off. i would love it if i had to make the pipe fit from the direction of the shock instead of from the cylinder head.

i thought it was such a tall tap that it would come very close to the frame.

hope you follow....

Yes Taff,
I follow perfectly. I have since made 2 trips to the shed to investigate. Yes, that LHS tap is a pain in the whatsit to refit. However, I cannot see the KTM EXC tap being any better. If you fit it with the outlet orientation facing the engine, even though the outlet is up much higher than the Berg tap, it orients around towards the outer frame tube more(small tube) No advantage whatsoever. If you orient it so the outlet faces the outside/ main frame tube you will have issues with the outlet / main frame tube clearance, and issues with tap access due to the small tube.
My advice? Pull the LHS tap out and throw it away. Make up a flat plate with the outlet facing where ever you want. Purchase a self sealing quick disconnect fuel coupling as made by LEGRIS pneumatics fitting company. You can then pull tank off without touching a single screwdriver . I did it on my XR650 back in 2001, worked brilliantly. Food for thought ?
Cheers,
AUSBERG
can I go watch TV now please?
