How hard do you think it would be? Would the frame handle the added weight?. Just a thought.

ah for sure free is allways good

its plenty strong enough for the job, if it fits though that is the problem, the cases and the swingarm matching are where most guys start, there probably also isn't enough room in the under engine cradle because the berg output shaft location is at the same level as the crank, if you have a free LC4 engine as well then you have all the answers allready i would think.

Tread carefully fellows........ "just because its free doesn't make it good".
I and I am sure many others have spent many many hours messing with free projects that end up not working as well as the original design.
Im picking the LC4 weighs a bit more than the FE which may well unbalance the whole rig.
I've had to resort to some serious grinder/welder work in the past to sort out m8s 2-4stroke hybrids. ie XR500 into RM250, fast XR200 into KX80(now this was a lot of fun to ride but still got whipped by stock KX80 on MX track) I have seen a CR500 in a CRF which worked ok. and his m8's YZ490 in YZF looked real pro.
Its all about balance.

thats a good point Bro

the pre 09 is allready unbalanced a tad, lots of weight toward the front

headstem cut off and put back on 30 -50mm further out helps. there are pics in the DOC of the factory teams bikes with this mod.

You'de think that would make for a bit of a long sled an extra 50mm. matter of getting the ballance of trail/rake back in place i spose. b nice to have a factory to play with.

same length as a jap MX bike if you go 50mm +

head stem rises 17mm and steepens the rake, front of bike loweres 17mm handlebars go up 17mm, can drop the rear of the bike by raising the shock top mount

bike is much nicer, problem is the stupid fat tank makes it hard to get forward for turn in, Taffy heated his up and squashed it, top idea. trail is reduced even more than stock which is an issue.

Ill get mine sorted if the slopokes in perth ever get my Cromoly tubing organised, they're slower than the local kawasaki dealer

I'm guessing it helps sort out the front washy feeling into turns.... spent a bit of time adjusting mine out and thought it worked o.k. Depends on riding conditions I guess.
I thought smaller was better (with more power of course) so not sure why you would want to make bike longer but there must be something to it if the makers and shakers are doin it. Personally I will w8 till ive ridden one before I get out the plasma cutter.
I have to take issue with your "same length as jap bike with + 50" and then "bike is much nicer"...... your not implying that jap inc has got it right and we should aim for that are you?
I'm not saying your wrong........ but I don't agree that the dimensions of yzcrfklrmx are correct. Maybe something in tank position tho....... Hmmmm I better give some due consideration............................................
Thort about it....... already got a japper or 2 in the shed, I'll leave Bergus as it is coz...........................
Bergs are just a bit different.

some points for you to chew on

high static front wheel loading

rocking chassis movements, whoops, big braking bumps etc

centre of mass

2009 berg chassis  2010 yamaha .....

the issue is front/rear mass transfer, how it influences chassis stabilty and the ammount of work the OC forks can handle before turning into a bubbly mess.

not all the Jappers have it right, the 09 crf 450 is almost as screwed up as the pre 09 berg.

Its all about balance.
