here's one for Mats....

for those that don't know it, the early and late flywheels can be swopped. so a pre 2004 can have a flywheel from a kokusan ignition bike fitted. everything sits fine.

the problem is that the kokusan has a staple trigger on the outside of the flywheel and that is also where the static 'staple' is that takes the energy pulse. this has always been the problem: no room for the pick up!

BUT, if you have the MX flywheel fitted, it is 2" narrower across the diameter and if a suitable location can be found for the pick up - all racers and MX boys will be in business!

simples!!!!

Aaah, smart!
I should have known this in April! For the fuel injected DOHC engine, I needed both trigger wheel and a small generator. SEM made such a unit for the Cannondale project (1-cylinder 450cc designed by Folan). This engine turned up later as the 450cc from Highland. Anywho, that flywheel had an outer trigger ring and a 120W generator, just enough for the injection and ignition. Problem was that the center didn't fit Husaberg. So, I ended up doing what i normally end up doing... I cut away the center in the "Cannondale" flywheel and welded a Husaberg center to it. Then I machined and welded a holder for the VR-sensor on a OEM fly wheel cover. There is no old stock SEM ignition in my project! :D

BTW: I'm currently working with piston for my project. As for now it gives 14,7:1 in compression ratio and it needs larger valve pockets, which will make the piston roof too thin...

Thanks for the tip, Taffy! If/when this current "SEM/Cannondale" setup start playing tricks on me, I will take a closer look at the Kokusan for sure!

Is there a picture of a Kokusan flywheel around here somewhere?

well if it's a 100mm piston you want you can always talk to me. I would think you need virtually a flat piston some 14.4mm above the gudgeon pin?

I don't have a photo of the flywheel but If i can I'll rustle one up.

hi,i own a 470cc from 2002 sem stator and sem ignition coil (red),and my problem is that i have no spark with the elec starter but with kick it has,so do you thing it is due to the coil?
as i couldn´t get any spark on elec starter i adapted i ktm 625 kokusan but i had to change flywheel marks and the cover stator is now upside down, the cdi comes from a ktm 400 number 590 039 03 100 that fits perfectly but i has a couple of wires to the carb,do you think it might affect if i don´t connect them as my mikuni tm 40 doesn´t have the option?should i plug it a ktm 625 cdi?
ktm 400 and the one i have are the same, any ideas why i dont get any spark?not even with the kick?
all the answers are wellcome,cheers

the reason your 2002 didn't start with a red coil is because it shouldn't have one red! it should be black. the stator itself should produce 2750= Ko and if it produces something like 1900 that means that you have th3e wrong coil, the wrong stator but that they were meant to work together.

the reason you don't have a spark on the leccy boot is because the white wire needs to go through the solenoid. when you hit the button direct current goes straight from the battery to the coil boosting output and allowing the bike to start on the button.

KTM stuff? no idea!

great nick by the way and welcome to UHE!
