Hello guys,

Im into tidying up my new - old project, a sweet as 2001 FC550, :D its an awesome bike for its age, and has competed in the 2002 Finke Desert race with its former owner (ill post some pics soon), when it turned up, i noticed the kickstart lever was slopped out pretty badly, finally managed to get it off the bike tonight, and it looks like a bit of wear in the hole in the lever that the kickstart pivot stub sits.

can anyone advise if this has a hardened sleeve, I cant imagine it working directly against the alloy of the kickstart, or it would be flogged out or broken right through in no time i'd expect.

anyway, i dont want to go trying to extract a sleve that isnt really in there, but im hoping that there is a better solution than getting a new lever.

cheers for any help, i hope to have all the bits back on her by the weekend and maybe find a way to go for a ride.

cheers!

Azza.

but im hoping that there is a better solution than getting a new lever.
there is: get a new used one. i got one from a early model engine for my '02 650 for about $20 shipped a couple of years ago.

My 2002 FC550 was the same way... and the rubber "detent" in the clutch cover was gone so the lever would flip out while riding (very annoying). Dan at Motoxotica suggested a newer (2004 I think) kickstart lever would be best so I bought one... the mechansim to hold the lever in while not in use is integral to the lever and pivot on the newer kickstart lever. Well worth the $100 or so that I invested... it bolted straight on, problem solved. I know you would rather fix yours... but I thought I would give you some feedback on my experience.

Thanks Ned and Duane,

I will get onto JayDee motorcycle wreckers in Aus and see if I can get a newer one, I was going to see if my '05 FE lever would fit, but you have answered that question for me.

Cheers!
Azza.
