What sort of money should I be looking to pay for a used FCR 39 flatslide?

I plan to change the standard on my FE400 if one crops up for the right money.

cheers.

if you spot a bargain-all well and good but if you look at ebay on a eureopean search (link supplied in a post two days ago) you'll see that they go for E170-200 which is £150 there or abouts.

they vary as some won't even give you the cables or the belmouth the swine(hund)s!

go into forum > fuel > "FCR owners please reply". here you'll find everything to convert a std 39mm carb. also all the jetting.

i would also mention to you that right now 'radiomankev' has a 41mm for sale on this very site in the classifieds section. a bargain at $300 with nothing else to pay.

if you wouyld like to purchase it and swop it for my 39mm i'll do you a deal. PM me for that or for the settings before i went to '53' cam.

i don't think it makes hardly any difference.

hope this helps and do let us know how you got on....

regards

Cheers for the info Taffy, I'm still working through your exellent owners doc plus the mine of info on this site.

It'll be a couple of months yet before I'll have the funds for one but if a 41mm is available then I'll do the swap. What the thinking behind going to a 41mm as I presume its for your FE400? Presumeably you've done a lot of cam and valve work?

I'm still working through my 400 as it was a bit neglected before I got hold of it. The original Del Orto was in a state so I've given it a good clean and treated it to a new needle and needle jet. The mixture screw was turned out so far it was coroded behind the thread (Ithink the choke was sticking open as the plunger was full of crap) so I replaced it with the one from a new 38mm PHBE that I picked up cheap off Ebay.

The battery will need replacing very soon and I'm also worried about the rocker bearings due to the amount of slack when I adjusted the valve clearances.

I'll just keep working my way through slowly.

you need to look at the end of the rocker arms. you'll need to pull the whole cam cover off with the rockers attached.

then look at the end that holds the roller bearings that roll around the camshaft.

if you have four 'chip marks' to hold the pin in = you have the old rockers.

if you have what looks like a 4mm pin inside a bush = the newer rockers.

easy to convert but will cost you a few quid.

BEST CHECK. symptoms are i'm afraid those of early rockers!!!! soorrrryyy!

bearings will be good although you're not far from a full strip and rebuild for that year. don't panic, i haven't done it yet either but we're close....

tuning? '53' MX cam, 501 downpipes and MX silencer along with the FCR carb. my MJ is down to 158 which means that the air stream speed through this carb is almost too fast and the next carb would be good.

i am porting the exhaust ports out to 29mm and that'll be tried next. as mentioned in a recent post. the inlet tract is huge and was designed for a 550/650 and NOT the 400.

I'll have a look, just found out that rocker arm bearings are £17 + vat from DCR. The missus rang up to order a new sump plug (rounded trying to remove, don't know why previous owner installed it that tight) and asked for a few prices on other stuff. When she said that the model was a 2002 FE400 Mr Clarke was not so sure without further details as apparently 2002 FE400's are rare. Can anyone confirm this?

the usual smelly stuff i think. he sold as many '02s as he ever has of anything. he even imported all the unwanted USA FC470 and the like and flogged them off for next to nowt.

porkies!

£17 each + the dreaded VAT? i would go through the members document which will be uprated in the next couple of days and then think about the peice of mind of getting a new camchain, the tensioner uprated, check the inlet valves etc.

don't ask about the valves!

they are £40+ each and come with KTM on the box. so bend over that table this won't hurt much   ]

the inlets are the ones to watch whilst the exhausts i replaced and i wish i'd spent the £100 down the pub. they can keep going.

And the conversation in the oldberger household went something like... "You said that motorbikes don't cost much to run!"
