Hello boys.

Is the Keihin FCR 41 MX to big for my 501 -99?
It comes from a Suzuki RMZ 450.
And is the change to the Keihin worth it, my Dellorto works fine and allways start easy cold as warm.
Have smooth delivery of power in the lower rpm`s and the bike almost never stalls if i don`t fu** up in tight tracks.

After reading all this i think i almost answered my self, buy fuel and Michelin S12`s instead
and go on with the old Dellorto.
Or?

Jampe, just to add to your confusion, i will say when i put a 41 on my old 650 it transformed the power.
I still haven't got the jetting perfect but it will pull wheelies a gear higher than the dellorto......... very addictive.

Whether it will have the same effect on your 501?

If you have it already or can try it first then it must be a try.

decisions, desicions

The 39 on my 501 was a great improvement. the biggest problem I had with the dellorto was getting consistent float height, it was never the same and I'm convinced was the cause of flameouts and flooding and the need for the hot start I fitted as a bandaid. The FCR was well worth it for me. Recently changed the anti backfire plate which is about the only thing to keep an eye on. The boys reckon that changing the O ring from time to time is a good preventative measure.

My setting are here

With a 41 you may need to go a little richer due to reduced gas velocity, and note I'm at 800m too, so add a bit for that. Perhaps a 160 and raise the clip one notch, maybe a 38 pilot to be safe? Lots of good info from Taffy in the doc and Buzzard's $40 spruce up thread.

Got one!

Have a Keihin FCR 41 from a Yamaha 450 -05 now.
I`ll be back with a report when the carb is mounted.
What twist grip and wires did you boys used when you mounted the Keihin?

yes but what are you comparing it too?

it'll be a test on a 41mm carb on your bike and not whether its too big?

the answer is that it's more than enough. i'd have sold the 41 for good money and then bought the less popular 39mm. then i would go out for a meal with my girlfriend with the change.

Re: Got one!

Comparing it against Dellorto of course, i am happy with my Dellorto but little bit curious about the Keihin, if it gives smoother power than the Dellorto or if i can go on lower revs in tricky trails without it stalls.
I`ll be back.

Jampe

RE: Tackar

I tried a Keihin on a berg that had a delorto. It was meant to be set up to bolt straight on. In started and idled better, but it could not give the same power for some reason. Maybe if I worked with it, but I just stuck with the Dellorto. The flat slide is high maintenance, but the round slide is so easy to live with.
