Hello dear community.

My name is Julien, I’m from France and I’m 34 year old.
I lately bought a Husaberg 400FE from 1997 and I’m trying to fix it.
I came here in order to find some advise or information regarding my new sexy bike ;)

The engine been rebuilt in 2012 (nickasil), new piston in 2014. The bike has been used for 20hours until a screw from the valve lifter fall into the lower part of the engine. The Crank shaft been folded by the blocked gear. To resolve that, the former owner replaced the bottom of the engine but the engine has never start since he made it.
Here I’m with all that stuff and I il try to recover this engine :)

Sexy bike naked :
(Cleaning of the carburetor, set up of the valves, unblock of the gearbox : I totally don’t know why I wasn’t able to change gear)

I have heard that the ignition may be setup on this bike? Do you have any advise to how to proceed please ? Also I m looking for the tool to remove the ignition disk. (If you have the reference please ? :) )

hello

welcome to UHE!

I have a video of ignition timing in my Taffmeisters video pages.

you need a 1989-1998 flywheel puller - i sell them.

it probably won't change gear because the selector plate is binding. look at the moving plate on the statric plate. look for "blunt smashed nose" like a boxer.

cheers

Thank you Taffy ! Yea, I already took a look to your shop before to log on this forum ;)
I confirm you that there are some parts that I’m interested in !
Regarding the gear selection bloked.. you reached my limit of understanding of English... to much specifics words For me ;)
What I understand, is that I have to unmount the clutch to take a look if selector plate is smashed or not ?

statric = selector plate. a typo mistake.

yes, remove the clutch and watch where the claw smashes and gets wider. you can grind the edges of the plate but we also now (for only this June we got them) have new selector plates.

cheers

Taffy

I confirm the moving plate wasn’t doing her job nicely.. I have the luck to have a spare engine with the bike, I compared with the other selector plate and it simply goes fine :)

Many thanks for the advice !

During the assembly of the clutch I notice a little part that appear to not be at its place. (Part 54 on the picture below) Can anyone confirm me of this part has to be inside the part 14 please ? (Between the part 50 and the part 14 )

Yes. That's what I've heard called the "clutch pill". It allows the clutch push rod (part number 50 which may not spin) to actuate the clutch lifter (part number 14 which may spin) and disengage the clutch (which does spin). It is also available in different thicknesses to account for differences in case width, clutch thickness, etc. It goes in the bottom of the deep hole in part number 14.

the clutch actuation arm on the other side of the engine needs to be at 90d to the rod to push correctly (like how a tennis player swings to hit the ball). sometimes two pills are needed when extras thick frictions are put in etc.

Hello guys !
I will soon get back to work on my Zab, and I would like to get your advises in order to buy the correct chain configuration for enduro use ?

I also would like to know the reference of bearings I need to buy for the motor ? (I think I will switch the vilo from the motor that I have on the bike now, which don’t start, to the spare motor it was on the bike before, where the vilo been bent)

Bonjour Julien

what is a 'Zab' Julien?

when you say 'chain configuration' I think you mean what we call 'the correct gearing' for enduro?
I would go for 13x52t.

what is a 'vilo'? you are asking about a bearing? which bearing?

regards

Taffy

Sorry , I have been fast with my email :
Zab is the little name for Husaberg
Vilo was «*french*» word for crankshaft (sorry for the French)

Regarding the chain configuration, thank you ! You were right, I was looking for that info. (Do you have any links where I can directly order from your website the correct chain + both teeth plate for enduro use ? )

Regarding the bearings, I want to open an engine and change every bearings for new one, if you have the complete list of bearing to order before I open the engine , please ?

your rear sprocket can be either of two sizxes unfortunately. the easiest way to say is to measure the hole in the middle. 119mm or 125mm. there are also codes on them. "165" or "224" ie early. "897" and "990" is later.

well this isn't my own web site and I don't want to do business in the open. personal message me for other things please?

the original Husaberg numbers for bearings will work in a search.

I will message you now.

Taffy
