Hey guys,
I just put a 45 pilot jet in my fcr on advice from you guys after my annoying popping from my exhaust,,,
the 45 pilot jet has solved this but i was also curios as what it would be like if i lifted the needle to the bootom clip (7 from top),,
It seems to be great - from idle the engine seems to rev alot quicker,,
Do you guys think this is overkill?

Will the needle being raised affect my fuel econemy heaps?

daniel

daniel please put all you your jetting specs up if you want advice like that. i bet your needle is a D series coz the E series would never improve that much if you lifted it!

also year and model. now i'm old i tend to forget things. why not put your year and model in your signature?

regards

Taffy

Taffy thanks for your reply,
2005 fe450e

main jet is - 178

jet needle is - OBDVR

idling jet - standard is 40 now 45

jet needle position - 6th from top standard but now 7th from top

when the bike is shipped to dealers it comes with a 38 pilot jet and an OBDVT needle at 2nd from top

what do you reckon

that sounds close to me, personally I will go as rich as possible, right now in my 06 450: 48 pilot, 180 main, 4th clip from the bottom with stock needle. Runs great, no popping or sputtering.

i've said it and done it till i'm blue in the face. what's the point in saying it again!

if all you want to do is get rid of a popping noise then jet it right up!

it'll go like a dog though!

i did around 100 seperate tests on my WR400 in 2000-2001. each one carefully monitored. i STARTED with popping and backfiring on a 178 main and 45PJ. two years later i was on a 155MJ, 35PJ and the bike didn't backfire.

it's like a phase the bike goes through, you can get backfire at any jetting. you should only test back to back and justify the correct time to do it. it can take a day for me to run 5 tests what with getting to the place, getting all my gear and kit ready etc.

i'm waisting my time telling you because of other people's feedback confusing you.

you have a D series, if you want more midrange and top speed as well as fuel economy go with an E series needle. get the EKR. in the owners doc it has yamaha part numbers for their needles and coke jets etc.

my jetting is 148MJ, lineaweaver needle, 38PJ, PS is 1.75 turns, 1 second of APJ, needle is clip 4. used to have a EKR and that was clip 4 i believe.

none of you will ever reach jetting nirvana which is a real shame....

regards

Taffy

Is the OBDVT needle in a new 05 fe550e leaner than a OBDVR in the parts kit?
