Isle of Man trip 19-22 October 2007

After a run-up that had more ups ad downs than a roller coaster, finally set off to the ferry with my 450, flat packed into the rear of my estate car, having had a grand total of half an hrs riding on it prior to the trip, during which I noticed that the bike certainly liked drinking juice and that the small tank wasn’t going to help for trail riding.

Arrived at the ferry, where I rebuilt the bike and met Steve “Gruntenburgâ€Â

Looks like you guys had a great time and I miss that type of landscape, I used to mountain bike in Brittany, it was pretty much the same, wet, muddy, awful but awesome and beautiful riding experience (nothing that a good bowl of hard cider could not fix).

Awesome photos, only one is missing and that is that of Taffy's new friend.

oh she was funny froggy, you'd have loved her!

this was NOT your parissiene lady with chic! no this was a scouser (i think?) pissed out of her tiny mind.
she was chatting to anyone within, what? 30 feet.

she had no eye contact she simply waffled on and on and on!
luckily i had my back to her and was oblivious to her rants BUT all the others had full eye contact
and were squirming in their seats!

just one word muttered from their lips would have brought the full one-to-one stuff.

to be fair i think she'd just lost her husband - about 20 years ago if he was smart.

fraser tried to put her down with one of his "comment to really shut you up" remarks
but she was oblivious too him! too far sauced up i'm afraid!

in the end the bar steward told her to sit there as he would call her a cab.
later as we were leaving i could see him stood over her shouting "cab, cab, cab, cab!".

after another x-ray today turns out i've fractured the small scaphoid bone in the wrist. it was only after a x-ray specifically for that it's been spotted

just waiting for a phone call from the dr's to see what's going to be done. after 4 wks a day or to more isn't going to make much difference, lol

i've just re-read this thread and i see that day 2 has failed to be submitted to the audience? the trip needs rounding off fraser!

wanna talk about august next year? i think we can wait longer to talk about it but i think that some kind of accomodation should be booked when possible.

day 2

quite short from me. someone who did some riding better cover that bit.

but suzanne and richard leant me a car. he is a director of the islands Renault, peugeot and bmw dealership.
suzanne told me if i get stopped just tell em im on a test drive and know richard.

went to douglas and was most confused when i couldn't find the start of the TT. always thought it was on the sea front when actually its on a hill at the top of town.

well there was nothing open in Douglas as it was a sunday so decided to do the tourist thing and drive around the TT course taking random photos whilst steering with my knee.

as i drove into Parliment square in Ramsey, what do i see but a load of husabergs parked out from of the fish & chip shop. take about bad timing.

so i stopped and we had a group photo as some chips.

the lads then went off and i continued on my lap of the tt.
how the riders race around this on bikes. it gives me more respect for those that do now. id happliy do fast in a car as theres a bit of protection when it goes wrong.

anyway after my not so flying lap, average speed 42 mpg, went and got some pressies for the wife, by which time the wrist was starting to throb so it was back to the house.

cant remember sunday night, pain killers were good, but trip home the next day went fine with gruntenburg and jim helping me to load the bike in the car and dad helping me unload it the other end.

only yesterday 4 wks later have i actualy fettled the bike, straightened everything and generally sorted it out.

all in all an enjoyable weekend. only slightly dampened by the fact that the riding was not different enough from what i have at home.

as richard our landlord, who has been to my area several times agreed, the riding was just like my place with less trees.

but with a gang for a weekend away its a laugh.

well saw the wrist specialist today.

after 8 wks the bone has not healed at all and is actually in 3 pieces.

got another appointment in 4 wks when i'll have a ct scan and some other scan to see what the blood supply to the bone is like.

if theres no sign of healing then its a bone graft from my hip onto the wrist.

for sale 2006 fe 450 only used once :(

sugar!

well your physiotherapist did indicate that area is known technically as "a complete *******!".

let's hope you have some luck this time mate..

do they have hyperbaric oxygen therapy in limey? its a regimen that helps healing where there is little or no perfusion.

OH HE'S GOT LOTS OF PERFUME! I'VE BEEN IN DIGS WITH HIM TWICE. HE'S GOT PLENTY O THAT THERE PERFUME!

we've got oxygen as well but it's mixed in with a lot of nitogen i'm afraid. best we could do! we did try him on hyperbaric oxygen but he babbled like a copper!
