Is the Taffmeister starter repair kit any good?

Engine is rebuilt and the starter spins strong (2008 FE550), but is not engaging. Instead of buying a new sprague bearing and starter gears, I thought about giving this kit a try Taffmeisters - Husaberg, KTM, Husqvarna, Gas Gas, dirt bikes - servicing, tuning, rebuilds, parts

However, I tried the "updated" Taffmeister valve springs in the past, and without going into details believe they are part of the reason a rebuild was required. Also, Taffmeister's attitude was arrogant and almost insulting instead of providing assistance during installation and when problems occurred. So I'm a little worried to buy more snake oil, but this kit would be lot cheaper than replacing all the gears in the starter mechanism...

Anybody tried this kit? What were your results?

you need to do a little testing to figure what the problem is. it's either the torque limiter breaking loose too soon or (most likely) the inner sprague needs replacing.
one of the things taffy used to sell as part of the kit was a tighter spring for the sprague. a good solution, but rarely ever worked for me (i made my own). here's a pic of how the spring is connected and can be shortened.

If you rebuilt the engine, which was not cheap surely, I believe you should buy a new sprague and starter gears. My personal opinion is that it's a part that needs replacing every 100-150 hours and then it works.

All mods, kits etc. I find a temporary fix and not the solution to the not engaging problem.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies guys! Hope to find time next week to take it apart and see which part(s) are the root of the problem. Would rather not replace everything if possible, but I guess we'll see about that
Thanks for the tip to shorten the spring Ned37, will give that a try for sure
