I was ready to pull the trigger on a new 2011 FE390, but the dealer rolled out a 2010 FE 450 for $2k less than the 390. I only weigh 145 - 150lbs (65-68kg), so I was never really seeking the extra power of a 450. I live in north-east US and will be riding technical single-track, rocky trails, and fire roads. I value control over power.

Is the new 2011 CC fork worth spending the extra $$? Would I notice a difference in handling between the 2010 & 2011?

Are there any 2009/10 owners who wish their bikes had the CC Fork and revised geometry?

No doubt those who have just paid a premium for a 2011 bike will say YES and those who have just saved a packet on a 2010 bike will say NO! Lol!

OK, being serious, IMO the CC fork must be an improvement and maybe if you're a top level rider, perhaps using the bike in competition then maybe you'll benefit. Given my ability, the type of riding I'll be doing and the fact that, I too, have just saved over £1500 by going for a '10 model there's NO WAY the '11 bike is worth the extra cash. Some will say that an '11 bike will have a higher resale value later on which may be true but who give's a sh*t. I've bought it for MY enjoyment and really couldn't care less how much it's worth xxx number of miles or hours down the road.
As for the 390 versus the 450 question, again personal choice, I'd go biggest everytime, especially as all the Bergs, 390-450-570 weigh virtually the same.
I guess the short answer is if you can justify to yourself the extra cost of the later bike then it's worth it.

Hi,

I have a 2010 FE390 and ride what you describe - I love this bike - I am a novice grade 2/3 rider. IF I had only one bike, I would have got the 2010 FE450.

I have read that OC forks are BETTER than CC forks for slow single track\trails where the average trail rider is going over rocks roots etc at a slow pace. The new 2011 suspension is optimised for fast 'sport' terrain.

Wife\spouse alert -----> Do not tell them this ....the bike initial outlay cost is only the beginning... :)

If you save the dollars and go the 2010 model, you have the cash to buy mods you need. When I got my 2010 bike (and I paid $500 under full price), I needed to dump a further $1600++ in mods:

- bike insurance
- fuel neck filter
- fork air bleeders
- bark busters
- map switch
- rear spring for my weight
- bar risers
- frame guards
- petrol tank heat shield,
- exhaust heat shield,
- counter sprocket guard,
- fan kit
- alloy radiator guards
- alloy sump guard
- Hyde ignition and clutch covers
- Hyde swing arm covers
- headlight protector
- spare spark plug, air filters, filter skins
- alloy brake disk guard
- tank\rear bags
- oil and filters for first few services
- 12v power accessory socket for GPS

That's weird, I put up a reply right after you posted this but now it doesn't show.
Anyways I had an 09 FE570 and have ridden 10 FE390 and FE450 and now own a FX450 with the CC forks. And while yes IMO they are a better fork I'd be pretty hard pressed to say they are worth the 2k difference. If you're getting a great deal on a bike with OC forks just get the bike resprung and revalved for your weight and save yourself $1000.

I'd also like to say that if you don't need the lights, maybe see if there's any of the FX450's with the racer kits left around. I LOVE my FX450 over any of the other FE models and I have a good amount of seat time on the FE390, FE450 and FE570. I use a Rekluse Pro and prefer the semi close ratio gear box on the FX over the FE and the CC forks are better. The deals on the left over FX450's were awesome and you get a voucher to have Factory Connection revalve the suspenion to what you want. It's a win win. Oh and I ride very tight and technical stuff so I wouldn't worry about not having a wide ratio gear box at all.

I love my OC forks on my 2010 450. Granted I had them revalved. BUt still.

Unless you want the latest modle year I'd say go 2010, That's $2grand in mods/upgrades if you go w/ the 2010. You'll love the bike.

I have ridden the 390 2010 model and i have a 450 09 and a570 2011 model , basically the forks on all of them are great , the o10 an 011 models are that close , unless you are competing for cash... you wouldnt feel the difference. that is my opinion.

You don't need to be racing for cash to feel the difference between the CC forks and OC forks. Ride them back to back and the difference is obvious. But its up to you to decide if you want to pay that much to have them. If you're just trail riding and not going that fast you'll probably like the OC's better. But once you really start to pick up the pace the CC's are a better fork IMO. But a revalve on the OC forks could get you very close to the same feeling.

Check out the deals with Funmart - posting on Ebay. I saved over $3k by going with the '10 FE450. That's a no-brainer for sure. They got a boatload of ones left over in the warehouse and still might have some FX450s too.

My buddy and me picked up a couple of the FX 450's from Fun Mart. Nick is great to work with and they can ship them anywhere. Have only rode it in the snow so far, but the forks are the same as my KTM XC which I was happy with. I had a KTM previously with the open forks, good in the woods, not so good on motocross track. Just found that the closed cartridge forks let it be more of a do everything bike. As a result, I sold my strictly MX bike.

You should have some great rides on those bikes I bet. I would have gone with the FX, but had already bought a 300XC as my competition bike, and I missed the deal with the R2R kit with the FX450 - would have gone for that for sure. My FE450 will be more for dual sports, trail riding and maybe enduros. Come on warm weather!!

I just bought one of the 2010 FE 450's off of FUNMART. My first fourstroke dirtbike. What would be the best add-on or mod for this bike? what about Euro mapping? What about the screen on the end of the silencer? :bounce3:

Had the option to get a 2010 model with all the spare wheels etc, but chose the 2011 570, only because of the CC forks.
Pricewise the two deals were about the same NZ $14400 on both (with discount) (Same price as a WR or CRX in NZ)
Rode a 09 390 which was good, but lacked torque.
Used a 2010 FE450 for a couple of months, and didn't like the front end. I should note that the previous owner had tried everything to get it right. He had to compromise to get it to sit up, without falling through the stroke. It was good on the big stuff, and on long whooped out straights, but had no feel. Maybe it was just the way he had it set up??
I have only 4 hrs on the 2011 570, but the front is perfect. Haven't even touched the clickers. two clicks on the rear rebound was all it needed, and the sag adjustment after the first ride.
I'm 52, and mainly ride cross country races and the odd MX. These days I like to keep the wheels mainly on the ground, so front end feel is very important, and also being able to take the big hits (When my speed gets ahead of my brain :D)
Thats the trouble with getting older, you still want to do the big jumps and stuff, but your brain slows you down.

Cheers Pete

for $1000 difference you could nearly buy the older one and put TTX inserts in the forks

2011 FE390, ...a 2010 FE 450

i think the real difference would be in the feel of the bike due to the size differences.
i was lucky enough to ride new 450 and 390 back to back.the 390 was by far my favorite.
especially when youre throwing them around, as i am assuming you do in your riding.

That depends on your weight and riding you do. Get the right springs is always my first step. Then I'm adding frame protectors, map switch, horn and mirror to make it legal, tall seat and bar risers because I'm 6'2", fork bleeders and maybe a FMF Power Core 4. Also will put reflective tape on the fuel tank bottom, a header guard and radiator guards. Oh, barkbusters and fork protector decals.

Hey guys, I'm looking at a slightly used 2011 FE 390 and am wondering how much stiffer these forks are over a 2010 450? Will the 2011 setup be too much for a 140 lb gal that's a non racing but stong C trail rider?

Should I just drink more beer

Hi: I just changed from a Husaberg FE 450 2009 to a Husaberg FE 450 2011 model with CC forks.
I just rode it for two days, the first one in a Hare Scramble and motocross closed corse and the second hay in enduro-rally friend´s trip.
My first impressions is that the CC forks are WAY BETTER. Precise, smooth, and very forgiving.
I recommend them to everybody. I had to put 4 clicks in (8 clicks from totally in to out) because it was too soft from factory. I weight 165 pound without gear.
So if can get a hold to a 2011 bike and if you have the money, GO FOR IT, it´s worth it.
Greetings.

either way you are probably going to have to re-valve / spring the forks and shock anyway. stock they are pretty harsh. the CC are pretty bling on the inside, I can see them working better for longer and staying cooler and more consistent if you can notice that kind of thing.

I'd go the cheap one personally and use the $$ on suspension tuning and useful bits to stop it getting smashed like rad guards and a fan.
