would say partly as they have obviously stumped up the cash to develope the bikes.

and like 90% of the components. lol. i just find it a bit funny when u look under the swingarm and see KTM and the part number.

A lot of people dont realize that the majority of KTMs new stroke engines are developed by Husaberg engineers. The 250SXF and 690 KTM motors are 100% Husaberg motors.

To that end,

There is a good pic of the original prototype of the new motor in Cycle News from a week or so back, that p-type was using the sem ignition. It is my understanding that this motor has been around since 03. In fact, this motor was eluded to in the Husaberg model brochure in 03, something about "some where in a shed is a new motor with the cylinder in a totally different configuration" or something like that. It is also my understanding that p-type was using the dual cam head that is now found on the sxf motors, but ended up with the xcr head instead.

And speaking of the swingarm, the swingarm was originally debuted on the 01 models, and delivery was delayed b/c of a fire at the Renthal facatory where the swingarms were or are produced. And was finally later adapted onto the KTM models.

IMHO it was the decision by KTM to finally let Husaberg come out with this new bike, and of course they have the purse strings.

And the info that I have gathered over the past year or so totally backs up what Scott says here that R&D for the KTM motors has come from Sweden.

Again all my opinion here. And all that matters to me at this point is that the new bike is finally here!!

690 a Husaberg Motor???

How is the 690 a Husaberg design? I thought it was just the latest upgrade to KTM's LC4 which has been their flagship thumper motor for a long time. Not doubting you just want to know.

RE: 690 a Husaberg Motor???

is ktm responsible?

i tend to look at it anopther way....

husaberg are 100% responsible for the design of that bike. the boys from sweden did a fantastic job it would appear.

so now we are all agreed about that then!

and now ladies and gentlemen, i want you to reflect on the bike they produced between 2001-2003. that was also 100% designed in sweden. yep, all the phuq ups were there's too. how did we get here? because of the boys in sweden.

you can't run with foxes and hunt with the hounds.

ktm owns the company , ktm pours in the funds . ktm is the puppet master , every thing must have ktm's approval . if ktm would not have bought HUSABERG they might not of had the opportunity to take this direction . ktm is responsible at the end of the day .... i had to ask the question thru curiosity .

I think KTM will play a huge part in any Berg success because of their funding and distribution. Berg should be in a good place now to develop their stuff and KTM brings quality control that was previously lacking, from what I have heard anyway (I'm not an owner . . . . yet).

My KTM dealer used to carry bergs, but he dropped them because of problems. He's more of bottom-line kind of guy than a true devotee of any brand, but his concerns over quality have been echoed elsewhere. When I started thinking about one a year or so ago he tried to talk me out of it. Now that he's ridden the new ones and fell in love with them he now has them on the floor again. A big reason for that is KTM doing the distributing. I assume other KTM dealers will follow suit. As far as I know there was only one berg dealer in the northeast. It's hard to have success that way, even with a killer design. Time will tell how the pricepoint affects things, but I'm drooling again bigtime.
