intermediate gear help

I retired from racing 3 years ago, but for some strange reason i ended up buying an 02 fe 400(my wife was delighted as you can imagine) which some one dismantled the engine,bought lots of new bearings etc for and then lost motivation.Thank god i found this web site its been invaluable.I'm putting the drive side together at the moment but am a little unsure what the intermediate gear bears on (crankcase side) it looks like it bore directly on the steel boss screwed to the crankcase, but i would have thought there should be a washer of some form as this is not a machined face. As i did not strip the engine myself i'm not sure if anything has been lost in transit, and as yet have not found an exploded diagram of the engine. Could anybody help please?

Thanks for the reply - I have downloaded and read through the whole manual but there is no mention of the intermediate gear and no exploded diagram either. Any other ideas as I'm itching to get on it this weekend?

Did you download the parts manual as well? It should have an exploded view.

Sorry you're right, just found exploded diagrams on the spare parts manual, i just expected to find them in the workshop manual, i suppose there is logic in that some how. Looks like it runs directly on the shaft anyway. Thanks again Jim.
