Hi, just bought an 03 FS650e but am having problems even getting a quote!! They are telling me they can only see that model from 05 onwards and are asking if it is an import. I don't know the model history of these and don't how to tell if import or not. Has anyone in UK insured one of these (I'm sure there are) and who did you get insured with and what premium did it cost (I've full no claims etc).

Cheers

Hi, and welcome.

I have an '02 fs650 and had no problem getting insured.
My insurance is through Motorcycle Direct. However, the 'berg is a second bike on my policy (R6 being the first).

Have you tried the likes of Carol Nash?

The policy is cheap even for the 2 bikes fully comp.

Hope this helps.

Where you based?

I had to insure mine recently, having owned it now for about a month i had a policy with MCA on a Ducati which i sold, when i asked to transfer insurance they said the underwriter on this policy could only offer third party only when he entered it in the system. I accepted but shall have to find another insurance company/underwiter myself when it expires. I would be interested to know how you get on. I understand ebikes might be a good option.

Best of luck
Mark

Back again, thanks for the replies. Just tried ringing Motorcycle Direct which was looking promising but I'm actually from N.Ireland which they said they only had one underwritter for that location and they weren't able to rate the bike??. Then tried Carole Nash - they eventually found the model on their system but then backtrack a bit and said again they will have to manually rate it and will ring me back tomorrow saying they will be able to quote but no idea how much. Problem seems to be on how the model is listed on their computerised systems and if its not on the list then they can't quote or need to manually rate which I don't really understand. Think there must be plenty of people who have got quotes for decent premiums - (seen a few of less than £150), but I think I've an additional problem being from N.Ireland with much reduced option/compitioon between underwritters- Doh!! Think I might have to bite the bullet and go with (one of the few) expensive quotes...

New2

why don't you put your address and bike model in your signature? it will always help at some point!

Mine's an 02 FS650e and is my sole bike used for fun. TPFT with Bennetts for around £110. No problem with insuring although it's more than a "standard" 600cc

try e bike they seem to have bergs on their register thats who im with and its the only bike on policy

that model might also be known as a dirt tracker on some systems (or not )

any links on any of these would be great as i pay more than that for my 400,

regards

Taffy

I'm with e-bikes for my FE501 02. Sole bike. Only passed bike test in July. Did it all on line and got cover note by e-mail on the spot. No probs.

New2berg,
I am not telling you to commit fraud...But try asking for a qoute on similar but as a FE! I know that they are on Carol Nash's books. Also, motorcycle direct gave me insurance for my Quad which is imported from Germany, is Taiwanese, of all places, made. And is only one in UK!!!!

£230 FE 501 & 600 Honda fully comp etc etc Devitt !

Regards
Ady

finally got sorted - and arkley123 I owe you a pint cos e-bikes were nearly half the price of my previous best quote!!

Cheers :)
