Hi there,

Never raced before but now I signed up for next years Erzberg Rodeo in Austria (look it up on youtube).
----------- You have to live your dream at least once -----------

Although I don't pretend to even finish I want to minimize the possibility to have to leave the race because of a flat.
The only sure way is to use Mousses. So far I changed mousses only once and it's not my favourite job.....
Is there anyone on the forum that has a wide experience with changing mousses? There excist some tools to help doing it but so far I haven't been succesful with finding any.

I am aware of the tubeliss system, tireballs, tennisballs, etc.

Thanks,
Adriaan

The best way is to get the shop to d it for you...:)

Seriously now:

Use a tyre rig or if you can't borrow/steal one the get;

3 good, long and strong tyre levers (Buzetti are vey good)
A Bead budy (Motion Pro)
Mousse lube (lots of it)
A friend to help.

Good luck with the Erzberg. You must be mad!!

Hi SpikeHammer,

I will order the bead budys and some longer tire levers but I will do it in the UK. More easy.
Not mad, just dirtbike crazy and Erzberg is one of these things you have to do at least once in your lifetime.

The enduro pros change a tire with mousse in less than 10 minutes! but I will be hapy if it takes less than 45 minutes....

Hi Adriaan.
It´s not so hard.
1: Lube it up good (the Mousse).
2: Use your foot to put it in the tire.
3: Lube the bead of the tire (plenty).
4: Use three levers and gentle force (be careful with the tire bead)
5: Look if tire is seated, if not use air to seat it.

Once learned you won´t go back to tubes. Its much quicker and easier.

Whereabouts in the country are you? I've got guys in my club who can do a set in 10 mins or less..:)

BTW get a pair of tuebless tyre valves to go into the now vacant holes. It stops the dirt getting in and also means the Police won't be asking questions if you ride on the road. (I believe mousses are illegal for road use)

together with my mechanic we could practice this afternoon with taking of two tires, front and rear.
We came up with a neat little trick. In the yard I had a steel water tube about 13-15 mm diameter and we cut about 10 pieces of 50 mm long.

I do have a self made tire rig and by pushing the bead down into the lower part of the rim and putting pieces of tube between rim and bead we worked our way around. That was easy enough. Then with the bead in the middle it was surprisingly easy to take the tire off.

Next time we have an opportunity I'll make pictures.
Thanks for the input, by now I'm confident we can master it.

SpikeHammer,

I don't actually live in the UK. I'm based in Portugal where I run an off-road tour company.
But I find buying in the UK easier and at the moment quit cheap.

Thanks for the tip about the tubeless tire valves.
We are not so worried about the police overhere.
I have seen policemen in uniform helping out on an organized day out for 4x4s, quads and off-road bikes. The were pouring in the drinks , the choice was between a beer or a glas of wine..... haha.

If I'm not mistaken cascais is near Lisbon. There's a small place near to Monchique, called Casais. That's not far from here. Is that where youre father lives?
I actuall live in Mexilhoeira Grande, halfway Portimão and Lagos. And yes, that's the Algarve. Hence the name of my company: Algarve-Offroad (not very original but it works well in search engines)

I'm very proud to take delivery of two new 2009 models Husaberg this week (well,....hopefully)
Whenever youre visitning your old man make a stop at my p+lace, you're welcome and there's always a cool beer in the fridge.

cheers,
Adriaan

Thought it might be that outfit...:)
I've been planning to do a run for the last couple of years from Braganca down to Cascais (Lisbon) on with my brother on a pair of Bergs. We have a route from Tne Nomads club that we will roughly follow. Now I just need to find the time!!

My Dad's up near Lisbon

that nomad track seems to be famous, I have it as well. I would like to do the same one day (when I have the time 4 it, which will be never probably)

If there's demand I could organize it next year Summer. We have a triplecabine Transit to haul all luggage and spares.
