Well Crew,

The good news is that I have a new bike, and I will be back riding regularly this year and beyond.

I wanted to pass along a XXL large thanks for all the feedback I've received here since starting my pursuit of my first new bike in...too many years.

The incredible information and bike banter I found here on UHE after discovering this site, played the biggest factor in my getting active on 2-wheels again this soon. Perked me right up again I guess you could say!

Extra nods to Fryguy (who I will find in person and go riding with as soon as possible) and LeFrog for recent exchanges on PM, and also to that crazy Ben Ballard guy at JBS Racing in the UK who stood my world on end when I discovered his 750. My life will not be complete until I have one of my own.

Dave at A&E back here in Alberta, Canada has also put up with reams of questions from me as I learned my way into Bergdom, exchanged email, and waited patiently while tried to find a way to buy one of these beauties.

But....after all that good stuff, and an agonizing but realistic analysis of my present personal situation (budget, time, proximity to dealer, requirement for a proper street-legal bike, new vs. used, )....I found that a Berg for Bill is just a bit too far outside of my set of requirements presesntly.

I had to resign myself to getting something adequate as opposed to what I really want, so, I am now the owner of an '06 DRZ-400S dual-sport. The bike will be good for what I need right now, but it sure ain't a Berg. My excitement at getting back into the mud is definately tempered by having to compromise on the bike. Such is life I guess, but still a very good thing overall re: I'm back on a bike!

Thanks for letting me soak up the hard core enthusiasm for riding that this site is flooded with. I will continue to visit and support this site.....and I will be back, with a Berg, as soon I can because there is definately an FE750E in my future.

Now, something I haven't been able to say for several years, it's time to go riding!!!

Congrats on the 06 DRZ-400S. They are reliable, capable and fun bikes.

Check in with Eddie Sisneros, AKA burned, on http://thumpertalk.com as he has loads of experience tuning those DRZ-400 motors. I think he has some of those motors producing upwards of 50hp.

DRZ's are great bikes indeed and another thumbs up to Burned as he is their Guru over on TT.
The 06's are at least the right colours, IE Blue and Yellow, almost look like a berg. lol

Good luck and see you back here soon.

I don't know... sounds a bit like taking your sister to the prom...

There's a weird character I met years ago, who does some outstanding work with Suzuki singles (and twins, and...) you might want to seek him out. His name is Dale Lineaweaver! 8O

Congratulations on your new ride, be safe and have a blast!

Hey, she may be pretty and all... but somehow, it just ain't the same... :D

Or, if you prefer something a little more eloquent...

"If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise." - Robert Fritz

I think it might have something to do with current positions in life, but I compromise all of the time. I would agree that it might not be what we would pick if money were no object, but personally, I've managed to have a lot of fun on bikes that others would send to the recycler.

@canaberg: Regardless of your mount, you're always welcome to stop by and hang out with us. We have quite a few members that have stayed to chat long after they got rid of their Bergs. We ridicule them when they're not around, but what they don't know truly doesn't adversly affect their life in any way.... right? Right? Where'd you go? HEY COME BACK!

good times,

OK..Canaberg,what we are saying here is that even though you have been a pain to Fryguy, Dave and JBS racing and we wish you would just go and bother Burned on TT with your Suzuki, now we see that you have much in common with many Husaberg owners as you like to take out your sister. As there may be a possibility that some here can get some perverted entertainment from your reentry into the motorcycle world we would like you to stick around so we can enjoy your misfortunes.. err ..I mean experiences. :D
All the best with your new bike and stay in touch......nsman

Canaberg

As they say, a bad day on the bike is still better than a good day at work, and I don't imagine it really matters to what color of bike you ride so congrats on the new ride.

Keep the rubber side down and make sure you cover your smile or you'll end up with bugs in your teeth, and maybe thats not so bad after all.

Book some time at the end of Aug and spend some time with us at Race Horse Creek riding, setting up an event, and a little night life.... ALWAYS a good time

Now I remember the PMs. Lighting kits were the subject. If you intend to dual sport, I guess a DRZ will be better, as it will give you more miles per tank, they are also a lot easier to get plated.

Hey guys!

Thanks for the positive feedback. Nice to not be cast out for my brand indiscretion....umm, not sure about the sister dating (eyebrows raised)...but, who am I to judge, really, having just bought a ...er....Suzuki.

Don't worry, I ain't leaving. Per nsman's inference, I will at least try to provide entertaining updates. No good for anything else until I get Berg'd I guess!

I will also follow the guidance to seek out said "burned" on TT for DRZ tuning info. This thing needs lots of it.

- Just had my first ride on the new scooter bringing it home from the dealer. Mostly gravel backroads (my world). I was surprised how dirt bike it feels. Narrow, flicky. No similarity physically to the old XR500 or early vintage KLR I had. Those were pure tanks by comparison.

- Also surprised how little bottom end torque it's got...but that could be due to the tragic jetting. Worst I've ever experienced out of the box (bogs, coughs, & fades througout the range) It's sick lean.....at the very least.

- Stock tires seem fine on pavement but hunt constantly on gravel...oh sure, it's fun, but... They also lack any real dirt tread

- The suspenders are better than I expected but still waaaaay too soft for my svelte but ....ahh...prosperous frame

- Gearing is OK on the road but with only a little goofing around in a summer fallowed field & some minor ditch scrambling, it's plain to see that 1st is way too high for anything but going for beer (not that that's a bad thing)

- Tried a couple wheelies. 1st is the only gear it gets up in and that is hard to handle with all the engine go, no-go, go again stuff. I think I set a new personal minimum distance at 2 1/2 blibs and around 20 ft. Stunning.

Anyway, I had done some research before purchasing and already have ordered: Dynojet Kit, Gearing, 909 Bark Bashers, higher rise Renthal bars, UFO rear fender/light setup (thanks Lefrog), Clark tank, thinner base gasket for compression boost, Perelli M21s (DOT yes but with actual knobs...sort of).

I'm gonna hack the airbox & there is apparently one simple mod I can do with the stock pipe to free it up a bit without doing it in or getting way noisey (I'll check with the burned guy on that). Race Tech springs will also find there way in there fairly soon.

This does seem like a pretty good bike. When I get done making it a bit...less soft, it may even have some proper power for a 400 and perhaps it'll yank the front end in ...2nd? (& I'll get all the way to 40 ft!)

Fun to follow!

If you are scared by the awesome power of the 400 I have a DRZ 250 in my garage.

That will freak you out.
