are there any easy mods for horse power gain on my '03 fe400 or are they pretty much at their peak.

Read the "Owner's Doc" please....before someone invents some new words for the english to american dictionary.

thaught so, well she's running really well so I'm probably better off not playing with it.

I owned an 2002 FE400 and needed more ponies. So I sold it and bought a 2005 FE650 now I have all the ponies I need a permanent smile on my dial. :)

the easy way is to stick the 470 barrel and piston on it. there was one on european ebay last week. unlucky!

that is easily the cheapest and quickest.

you can re-jet yoursaelf, find a tailpipe etc but all the changes only make slight differences. the best was the 53 cam and then the lineaweaver cam. worth it especially as it saves your valves and your rockers from destruction.

yeah thanks guys, the 650 would strugle on the tracks around my area. They're all tight, windy and on the side of a steep granit hill. The 400 struggles for traction as it is. The torque is great but a little more top end would be nice. I keep looking for 7th gear. Oh well.

hi,
if it seems a bit too squirty now and you want more top end....
maybe a front sprocket with one [1] more tooth might help get you there.
i personally think its because the air is spinning into the cylinder the
opposite direction [like a toilet bowl] as it was designed to have.
it's something i heard from a 'seasoned' desert rider.
hope it helps.
tuts

Huh Tuts, shouldn't he do the opposite? Add a tooth? Decrease the final ratio?

huh? it says 1 more,,,,
and its tuts ... no caps..
thanks for the quick proofread froggy!

agree with tuts, if you keep reaching for 7th you need an extra tooth on the front. then you'll find the bike will have to be kicked down to get it moving as the standard engine lacks torque. you have to thrash it in every gear to get it to go. it's more like a 2-stroke than a 2-stroke!!!!!

the answer? a lineaweaver LX2 cam.

yes but the valves are smaller.

interestingly, the 470 is a phuqing animal in my opinion. you don't just get an increase in power it seems to transform the bike. the SV head will help keep it down a tiny bit.

please check the size of the valves to authenticate the above statement. my '02 had 35/27s and soon after they went to the BV 35/30 head so check the '03 parts book or just ask joe!

there was a 470 kit for sale in europe a week ago and they're always popping up. you could always pay me a lot of money for my special 97mm 450 conversion and i'll take your barrel and piston in p/x for a paltry some!
