Where can I purchase a CDI/Coil for a 2001 FE650E? I am not getting any spark and I have a SEM stator that tests good (rewound by taffy, I believe) and it tests proper. The issue in having is when nothing is connected to the coil I have continuity between the orange and black (ground) wires, where there is supossed to be an open circuit as this is the connection to make closed through the key switch. Does anyone have either a reference for where I can buy a good unit or maybe a good unit for sale?

Hello

firstly, I have them for sale new but I try to encourage people to have them checked and repaired.

when the engine is switched off there is a circuit between orange and earth/ground. when you turn the key to 'on' the orange comes into the ignition barrel but connects to nothing.

I normally offer to check coils on my 2003 but she's in bits at the moment (I told her I don't lover her and then said; "pull yourself together, we can rebuild this relationship")

I understand what you are saying and went ahead and had my wife come to the garage, dimmed the lights and gave it a kick amd she swears there is a vivid blue spark. As far as with the electric starter (cbr600 model retrofitted) should I be in the lo or hi ignition curve when spinning it over? I cant seem to generate even a hint of a spark with the electric start.... And being that it has a factory carb....doesnt like to start anyhow. Do you have any experience or thoughts on the lectron carbs? One changed the attitude of my 98 KTM 380 EXC completely around and made it from a barely manageable powerhouse to an extreme powerhouse, but cant find anything on how they do with thumpers.

a kick creates a spark when hitting the button doesn't because leccy boot is slower. slower=no spark.

if your wife saw blue with the kick then that is good enough....you have a spark.

Go into Taffmeisters FB page and find my videos. then find the one called; 10 reasons to start a husaberg (or something like that).

the CBR600 starter is too slow. well, it might not be if you did absolutely everything in the list and then had it but until you have done the valves, the DVSK, the carb easy start andchoke cable, the iridium plug, the tappets, the ignition timing, the SRK the ADC, set the FS, set the idle, the FS, the Idle, the gel cel battery, changed the cam..........until you have done all that; the CBR600 battery isn't quick enough.

The info is there mate,

Taffy,

Thank you for taking your time to pay attention to my issue and for your quick and thorough responses. Much appreciated. One last question, is there a starter quick enough to generate spark without doing all the extras? Again, thank you.

It's marginal. I don't know what is slowing your engine or by how much. as a stand-alone idea though, I doubt it. you're trying to get around it the cheap-lazy way. up to you. I sell a faster starter called the 'beefy' starter but I wouldn't make a promise while you do nothing about the rest of the engine.
