So I finally bit the bullet and put a down payment on that 650 I was dreaming about. I figured I can control myself enough to not kill myself.
However it won't be such a bad thing if it does kill me because the girl friend who I know is hoping for a ring is actually getting a bread maker and well the ring has become a Husaberg which in my opinion is way better.
I have to figure out how to get it up here from Vancouver but I have a ride planned on the Queen Charlotte ISlands January 15th and my mate is buying a quad and thats great because he can pack all the kites and camping gear we're going to do over 100 kilometers of coastline, camping, fishing, clam digging and campfires and a bit of kite surfing of course lots of riding. I tried to get him to get a bike but no joy. Merry Christmas!

You my friend are in deep sh*t if you follow through on this plan.

Take a look at what happens to some guys that do this.

Lots of luck, I have been happily married for 48 years and I would not even try it!

Edit:

But then on the other hand, a small contribution, say a $, from each registered member on this web site should take care of the problem. Let me know and I will be the first one to contribute.

All I can say is you've got some balls. Enjoy them (and the Berg) while you still have 'em [-X

Up you go brother....remember...A berg in the shed's better than a hand full of bush. (or something like that.!!) I know what'll give you more trouble, even if it's a berg.

It's complicated whichever way you look at it.

hahahhaa this topic is so funny, madtrapper's story isn't but best luck my friend, enjoy your 650. When it works (which is half the time since the other half you'll be fixing it) it's much better then a girlfriend

Ok well the flak has settled now. I still have the Husaberg, and the girlfriend. For your viewing pleasure....
"Can you take it back?" (like a pair of shoes or pants to the Gap I guess)
"If you didn't tell me about something this big, I am sure you could also not tell me about other women..."
(How a motorcycle turns into another womans ****** I have no idea???)
"You have to sell one of your other bikes"..."Whats that stupid bike you haven't even ridden once?".."Husaberg or something, sell that one!" (can't wait to see her face when both bikes are in the basement side by side...dog house again)

In case someone on here is dumb enough to try this stunt here's a few of the ways I defended the purchase and the lack of communication...
First of all I pointed out she was actually part of the pre purchase discussion- I have been talking about dirt bikes for about 6 months now, and several times I asked her if I could buy a couple of used dirt bikes so we both could go riding together. (and I was serious)
I reminded her that the reply to that was "You are not allowed to buy me a dirtbike until after you buy me THE RING." (kind of reminds me of Hobbits and Orcs and Wizardry) She admitted that while not remembering talking about dirtbikes, she did accept that was exactly the type of thing she would have said.
While honesty is always the best policy I suggest actually "softening" the purchase price, but use a term like "about" or "Approx" admitting full price was a mistake. At the very least give the price before taxes.
Prior to telling her I layed the sub flooring in the living room. (ouch my back)
I worked the angle that it was actually going to help the relationship because if she expects me not to work this winter so I will be around I am going to need something to do...
and if all else fails, even though you paid cash for the bike as not to go in debt....you go to City Furnature and finance a new bedroom set...at least I will sleep well at night on our new mattress, even if it added 30% to the cost of my Husaberg. Cheers.

Excelent post rationalisation. Full marks. You're an inspiration.

Unfortunately, I suspect that your relationship is ultimately doomed.

I think I was fortunate in figuring out one of the key differences between M&F years ago, and its fundamentally that males like females for who and what they are, and females see potential in certain males whereby if only they can get them to change certain things they would become their Prince Charming. Gotto sort that out early in a relationship and it'll work, if not, you are forever up against it.

Hahaha well it may be for sale but look at that price! He's still playing the game! Hahahaha if my GF sees this thread I am dead meat. Actually my GF is pretty cool she's only mad that I didn't discuss it with her. She loves bikes and has a 690 SM which she rides well enough that she didn't even drop it as her first bike so I am quite proud of her. It's just all this talk about babies and rings and marriage that scares the hell out of me. I mean I am getting old too but YIKES!!! I don't know what I am going to be doing and where I will be 3 months from now with this job, and I like it. I want to live on a boat! Not interested in white picket fences and swing sets. I love kids but not sure if it isn't just as fun to borrow my friends from time to time. I guess I gotta grow up, but when?
