..hi today i started up my husaberg 400 and within 30 seconds what smelled like petrol came spewing out of a hose connected to the top of the rocker cover!!..its never done this before.i am guilty of not turning the fuel tap off when not in use but there was so much fluid poring out im not sure whats going on!!..is it a leak from the carb into the head when not in use and when started the engine throws out the excess or has something gone wrong inside the motor..anyone any idea whats going on..id appreciate a bit of advice before i start poking around the motor!!..thanks

i would look at the oil level and take a sample to see if it's gas contaminated. ( you also need to finish your registration for the site by putting in your location, and put the year and model of your 400 in your signature.)
and shut off your fuel between rides. if it is drooling that fast, you should pull the carb apart and clean the needle / seat.

Is it oil or fuel? Most likely the vent hose from the rocker cover to the air box (frame) is split. It's a pretty commomn problem on older bikes. Look for a split in the hose just above the hose clamp.

.thanks for the advice!!..its a 99 bike so its getting on a bit and this is the first problem in 12 years as i bought it new and after stripping the carb and giving it a good clean it seems to be behaving itself!!..

Was there fuel in the oil? If so, I assume youve changed it, ran it a bit, and changed it again.

..it was the carb needle needed a slight adjustment ..the oil was fine!..seals were good!!..for a 11 year old bike its never given me any trouble!!..and i can whip my mates cr 500 no sweat!!..king of the hill!!
:crossbones:

Change the needle and seat as taffy suggested.
If you have a vacuum operated fuel pump on the tank, the diaphragm may have gone bad.

..i dont understand how the petrol got into the engine!!..was it because of kicking it too much and the petrol squeezed up through valve seals or could it be the head gasket!!..the oil was very watery with petrol and had little or no viscosity!!..i dont wanna spend money replacing carb parts only to find a worse problem!!..how did the petrol get into the engine!!..ive never seen this problem on other bikes!!

It runs into the intake from the carb or fuel pump vacuum hose, into the cylinder, past the rings and into the oil.
