Since we were unable to join our group in Idaho this Labor day weekend, we scooped up a few good friends for a casual weekend in the Mad River system. Heavy rains during the week, then blue sky for our weekend, resulted in absolute premium riding conditions.
Myself, Steve and Josh planned on a roughly 65 mile loop for the day. Planned being the key word here . . .
We cruised up the valley, trying to conserve energy for later in the day. Both of my riding partners are intermediate level riders. That being said, they are determined guys non the less!
Once we started up the mountain, we came upon the first of several boulder field crossings.
We fought our way over three separate "fields", this being the last.
But all in the party were still smiles as we cleared all of the boulder fields, and prepared for the casual trails that awaited us above.
These trails up on the plateau are excellent cruising trails, and welcomed by the guys!
We swung into Mad Lake for a quick break, and Josh snapped this great picture of me headed back out! Beautiful area indeed.
Now 30 miles into the day, it was time to pick up the pace if we were to reach the diner and fuel, and expect to make camp by dark . . . .
