A slipper clutch reduces or eliminate engine braking. The first time I rode a FE570 I almost went over the handle bars when I let off the throttle in 1st gear. That amount of engine braking really slow you down and upsets the bike. The slipper clutch really smoothes things out and helps increase corner entry speeds.
