In need of help locating this relay it seems to be a unicorn..! The bike suddenly stopped after just after starting 1-2min and the error code: Fuel pump relay

Prior to determining i've changed fuel filters, spark plugs, and verified all fuses. The fuel pump will prime there is spark because it will fire on starter fluid to throttle body.

Shorting pins 5&6 give me fuel pump relay which I purchased BUT I have no idea where this is located. Tank is off as well as air sock - lost please HELP!

Hi, according to the wiring diagram there is no dedicated fuel pump relay. There is a power relay. So it would seem that the fuel pump switching is handled by the ECU. There are some other threads here dealing with all sorts of issues related to the fuel pump and wiring. Your best bet will be to read up and check everything from dodgy battery connections to iffy connectors.

...and more...

If you checked everything and can confirm it's definately the internal ECU relay, you may want to wire in a dedicated relay, instead of replacing the ECU, link below

Hope this helps

If you’ve purchased the relay already, might as well install it and see what happens. You’ll find it’s tucked into a cavity of the frame in front of the cylinder head cover, it’s rubber mounted to the frame. It’s really tucked in there, but if you’ve got the tank off, you’ll see it.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, really check over the wiring. Pop the fuse block off and flip it over. Check the condition of the wires, they have an extreme bend to them and can break.

Check the wiring diagram to track down the wires coming and going to that relay. Chances are, that’s where you’ll find your problem.

Good luck!

Wow! You are such a relief and I can’t believe that it was in the front chassis. The diagram has it with all the rear end electronics.

So I’ve replaced and have cleared any error codes, nothing showing. However it will not fire up on its own. If I use starter fluid it will fire up but that’s all he fuel pump spools up ( sound) even when shorting pins 5&6.

At a loss... ;)

BTW only 300miles she is in mint condition cream puff purchase from neighbor and it have 200 of those miles.

Have you verified fuel pressure? You mention you here the pump running a few seconds on its priming cycle. However, you won’t hear it running when cranking the bike. Remember just because the pump is spinning, doesn’t mean it’s moving fluid. What’s the condition of the fuel?

There’s lots of info on this board about checking pressure. You can make a cheap gauge work, but will have to rig up the right quick connect fittings.

Without eliminating the basics, you’re just throwing darts.

Pretty certain the pump is the fault but let me share this.

Fluid flow is good, was able to pump out a few liters of gas prior to pressure testing. Made up quick connect PSI gauge in a water bath, results were +58psig - Good! Water was a concern but cleaned and dried before re-installing.

Prior to installing tank I wanted to verify fuel flow with 12V connection - Nothing! Pump spinning as ususal but no flow. Wondering if it needed to be primed? So I connected bulb siphon to injector housing, still no fuel. Verified there were no kinks/pinch etc.. Still now flow. I reversed bulk siphon and could hear bubbles in fuel - open line. Lost, lost, and lost!

Called it a day and put up my tools. The next day same results the first couple of attempts, then the pump stopped spinning. Guesing failed and the original issue.

Thanks - eeazye

fe 390

Hi there just to make you feel better your not alone me 390 has no power to fuel pump I have no warning light come on , I do get a werring noise from tank for 2 secs when ignition is turned on, not the pump , as I can wire pump to battery and it works ok I have taken out fuse 2 and bypast wires to make ignition come on then I get warning for fuel pump so no error there
now im wondering if it could be my ecu not sending power to the pump
really getting me down any ideas please
