Hi,

The short story is that in April this year the magnetic parts in the rotor broke. I got a new rotor and stator in May and the bike worked nice. In the second weekend in September, I got misfire and power lost. I checked and the stator was broken in the top, there the wires goes. I went to my dealer since he had told me that it is one year warranty on Husaberg parts. I took the engine with me and he dissemble the rotor and the parts were in good condition, no corrosion or something like that. He called David Larsson at Husaberg and come back very surprised. He had been told that there are no warranty on Husaberg parts. He told me also that this is a well known problem. Husaberg know that all the SEM-systems crack, its only a matter of time. My last stator cracked as this but worked one year after that. I was riding two days before with no problem and after the washing I checked the stator and there was no crack.

This year it has been a lot of work so I haven't driven so much. It is something like 30 hours during 3.5 months, I had one month holiday with no riding. The bike has worked quite nice but the problem this far has been the Husaberg organization, despite this SEM problem.

So, my questions are:
How does it work with warranties in different countries? I know that the
bikes in Australia had one year electrical warranty. Any warranty at spare parts at all?

How often cracks the SEM-system? I saw that a German guy replaced it four times within two years.

I have also noticed that they have replaced a lot of parts the two last year.
The Husaberg seems to be a KTM with another color, less durability and lower second hand value. However, these have made the bike a lot better so the KTM engineers do a good work but why buy a Husaberg? But again, why buy a yellow KTM?

Are there anything we can do as Husaberg owners?
They know about the design and quality problem and still don't do anything about it, they only take our money with a smile. The correct thing should be to offer a up-grade kit to another electrical system as other vehicle companies do. This only generate bad will and it is with no reason KTM owns Husaberg, they saved the brand from extermination.

However, Husaberg is a nice bike but I cannot pay the money or have the time to make it running properly. Yes, other brands have problem too but in my club it is too many blue, orange and red bikes with no problems to be an accident. And, peolpe are fast, with these bikes too, very fast.

Here in the uk the bikes by law are given a 3 month warranty but the ignition is given 12 months but they don't advertise it they call it good will.
I would have thought a replacement stator would carry a 12 month warranty seek advice before you part with any more hard earned.

In the USA it is 30 days on the New Berg and nothing on parts.

In Australia, the bikes have a 12 month parts and labour warranty.
When the 04 limited edition 501 was released, the agent gave the standard one year warranty on the bike with a 2 year warranty on the stator as the 501 still had the SEM stator.

Are you sure this is something that is applied consistently throughout the UK?

I'm not questioning any dealer specifically but we all know our beloved importer

Hi,

yes I know these problems as well.
SEM stators failed a lot of times at my own bikes and at bikes of my friends.
So what I can recommend is: Adapt the Kokusan ignition to your bikes and
you won´t have any problems.
It´s not too easy, but it works. Have a look in my gallery. Since adaption
I have ridden about 15-18 hours without any problems.

Our dealer here in Germany gives us 1 year warranty on everything.

In the last few years there happened some annoying issues, and there are some details which should
really have been improved earlier. But it seems that
these failures didn´t seize every bike and every owner.
But you´re right, there is no excuse for that kind of rejection.

I think there was another reason that KTM owns Husaberg. They wanted their know-how,
so they could "create" their KTM 520.
You´re right that a KTM compares to a Berg in some details, and it´s also true that
a Berg becomes more and more a KTM, but the Berg still has got its character. And that´s important, I think.
And I can tell you stories about all the KTMs and Hondas and Yamahas...
Everybody is only cooking with water, as we say in Germany.
Here in my region, there are a lot of people who had biggest probs with their so called "very reliable" orange bikes!!! A lot of the racers here changed to Honda,
but I think a Honda is surely not the new 4 stroke revolution!
2 years ago here was a epidemic in orange. Today we see here a lot of different colours. A lot of red,
but let´s see what will be in 1 or 2 years.
I´m very pleased with my 2002 Berg! And this virus is also spreading. At least in the enduro scene here. But I´m talking about
6 or 7 friends of mine and we´re still
outsiders. You know what I´m saying? I´m sure you do.
Last week on a race, another rider asked me what brand my bike is. He never heard about Husaberg before.
After the race he will keep this name in his mind, I bet.

That´s funny.

Simon i was told by an ex employee of the importer that the ignition carries a 12 month warranty,if the matter is pursued he would be made to pay.

Hi,

Thanks for the answers, very nice.

I had a chat with David Larsson at Husaberg today. They will not do anything to make it easier to change the electrical system. I think that is a big mistake. However, a larger mistake was to use the SEM system in the new engine -01. They know by experience since -89 that the SEM system doesn't work very well. That and a up grade kit for manufacturing cost to the -01 and the early -02 with new rockerarms and a balance with two bearings would have given a lot of good will and a very good engine.
Instead they got people with hole in their engine long before the 100 hour check and cracked SEM systems. These gives bad reputation. When people see that I have a Husaberg they ask if I have had a lot of problem.

I have heard that KTM wanted the knowledge too. It's probably true in one way but they did a really good bike with this knowledge. All brands have problems but some you don't need to have. Husaberg will increase but it will take some years before people start to trust them. These break down in Six Days was not good. Björne and Martin got engine problem both and that should have been the -05 engine. My bike is a very early -03 made in the beginning of -02. Its a factory bike with the -03 frame and engine.

Since it is a matter of money, the parts and the design will be more similar by the years between Husaberg and KTM.

Thanks for the rebuilt tip Hirbman but I think I will change brand. Next bike will probably be a KTM due to no one else than the Husaberg/KTM dealers want to do business. They are afraid to not be able to sell the Husaberg 'cause today they have problem to do so. I understand them. It's also easier to find ever day parts to a KTM. The bike after that will perhaps be a Husaberg again but only if they have no quality problem for a few years. I like my 501 but I know I will have problem with the SEM system again so there is no reason not trying another bike.
