has any body got an 04 380? berg
wot the difference to the 400
is it just engine size? if so why bother
any opinions on this model ive seen advertised new 04 380 £3850.00
any body seen any other good deals of late

tis me again!

ok, in '04 husaberg went to 450 and dropped the 400. at the same time the bike was morphed into a brilliant machine in 99% of respectto those changes.

kokusan ignition, keihin carb, and the head angle channged to quicken steering.

now get this: the 400 is 92 by 60 whilxt the 450 hasn't even kept the same stroke, shyte they didn't even lengthen it - nope! - they shortened it. they shortened it JUST TO KEEP THE 100MM BORE.

when the 450 came out they dropped the stroke to 57 and what with the 100 bore they got their 450cc. but when you think my ducati pantah was considered a major break through in technology at 80 x 58 in 1980 if i tell you they're happy with 57 x 100mm. it's bad!

so the uk importer DCR put the 400 piston (92mm) on the bottom end of the 450. the 8mm reduction makes it an 380cc bike.

as well as the kokusan and the keihin you get the later '08 cam which is a proper race cam.

as you know, i choose to race a tuned 400. it's brilliant, i have the keihin and the race cam and i want for little more, even as a clubman at the top of his game....

taffy u never fail to amaze YES amaze me with your indepth knowledge r u sure ur not part of the berg board of design & technology.

Were a lot of your report means nada to me  im sure lots of people will be very furfilled  all i want to know is do u feel there is much to gain ?is the 450 a poor handling bike in comparison as u ride the older tuned 400? and if there is extra work involved in the conversion how do they do it at the same price as 04 450? ( only your opinion ) im just curios and wot makes it more interesting its not DCR ive seen them at?
how about that price

PS thanks for ur in put

Taffy my boy,

Is all of that in the Wikiberg???

Andy Mitchell at DCR offered me a brand new crated '04 450 for £3800... i think i'm gonna go for one it sounds a good deal to me.

DCR does many strange things, some of them business like and others appear at first not to make sense. he makes enough that if he takes a 450, strips it and slips in the 400 barrel, piston complete and a smaller little end and has it back ogether in say 3 hours, he is owed little from the job. as the importer, every bike sold or not even sold but RUNNING in the UK nets him a profit.

is it a good bike? can't be sure but given that it gives away just 3mm in stroke i'd say it's pretty much identical to my tuned 400. it has a keihin, it has a better ignition, it has same cam as mine (more or less from what i can gather) it has a big valve head on a small combustion chamber which sounds like it makes the bike rev to work extra well at the top end. it even has the larger bore headers that i run.

handling wise it'll be better than my old frame and sussies are more up to date.

from my point of view, i probably have superior compression, better porting, an extra 20cc, the ignition makes barely any racing difference and my sussies have surpassed the latest specs but they are excellent.

i can't answer your question       as to wether you should get one

So given the choice Taffy... which bike would you choose, the 450 or the 450 modified into the 380?, i'm interested as i'll be buying a new berg shortly, they are roughly the same price but which would be the best bike?

The 380 is an easier bike to ride for a longer period of time. The 450 has a lot more mid range power and the average rider finds it a little too much after 3-6 hours riding in events. All the 2004 range are better than previous models because they have the new ignition and carb for instant starting on the electric start unlike older models which start when they feel like it. We have sold far more 380s than 450s simply by letting people try them and see them competing and seeing how reliable they are. Husaberg factory now do a 380 conversion kit at extra cost but we can convert them at no extra cost than bying a standard 450.

Midwest thanks for the info, i dont race at all.... just a pleasure rider i take my kids out on theirs and we all ride together, however i am used to a bit of power as i ride a 501fc at the moment.... so does this mean i would be better suited to the 450?

yes i'd take the 380 as well. my mate races the 450 and says it's too much! the 450 makes a different kind of power to the old 501 you have.

the 380 ridden flat out is more than enough bike.

i think like most people you're under the misconception that you need more power to go quickly? it's my experience that 125s are the quickest bike in 95% of situations. so even a 380 could be said to have too much power.

everyone i know who has ridden a 380 has really liked them and several swapped from 450's to the 380 when it came to changing bikes.

I have to say i know what you mean Taffy, i often wish i could wind the 501 up other than on the straight bits but its impossible, either the front wheels up in the air or the back ends washing out and sometimes both at once, you seem to be on and off the throttle all the time and it doesnt make for a very smooth ride at all. The 380 sounds interesting i may see if i can find someone with some and go have a gander.

An update... feast your eyes on this! Brand new from DCR... he calls it pimp your ride 380 haha, havn't got a price yet, alloy everything including tank!!!!

hello mid west

now you're making me dribble!

can we have a name from you? are you the boss?

for those that don't know, mid-west have become one of the premier uk husey dealers of late and if i'm correct more closely associated with the on-road (SM) stuff/goodies etc.

regards

Taffy
