Last winter I threw some sta-bil in the tank, kept the battery charged and called it good. The bike ran fine in the spring, but due to illness (lyme disease) I haven't ridden at all this year. I tried to drain the gas via a siphon with mixed results, the tank is so convoluted it's hard to get the fuel out. At this point, I've put sta-bil in again and run it a bit. Any other suggestions on draining fuel or winterization?

Thanks,
Wardo

I would suggest using the Stabil that is made for Ethanol. I believe it is the blue stuff.

Put some in the tank, then fill the tank to reduce the amount of air/moisture that is in the tank. Then run the engine for a while to get that stabilizer through the fuel line to the injector.

That, plus a battery tender of some sort is all I have done. But I won't know if that was enough until spring.

Perhaps it would be good to change the oil before storage. I tend to do that in the spring, but it would probably be better to have clean oil in the motor during the winter.

I'd also use some misting oil in the cylinder. Quick & easy to use and added insurance.

If the bike is being stored outside or in a damp outbuilding etc. I drain the oil & fill it right up to the filler plug with a budget engine oil. Just don't forget to drain it (and refill) in the spring before you try and start it!!

If you want to completely drain the tank without removing it why not disconnect the fuel line outside the tank, rig up a 12v feed to the pump and use the pump itself to drain the fuel?

Thanks for the replies. It always helps to get some outside input.

Wardo
