I've seen comments in an earlier thread about 'hearing' of x number of hours but how many has your bike really done without work?

Bike
type of riding
number of hours

I have a 2011 450FE and trail ride so rarely rev the thing. Could it be 200hrs or 300 etc before a strip down. Once a year I do a 1000 mile off road trip and would like to take the Berg but this depends on time between re-builds.

So, what has yours done?

Valves checked every few oil changes or so, oil every 7 hours, never sees 10 hours without a change. Cam chain done once i believe. 270 hours. i have owned it since 140 hours. FS650e

Don;t know about hours but 08 550fe 17640ks (no bs) before top end rebuild.Aslo might add bike was still going well just lost some compression, still started never used oil and not rattly.
This bike is awesome i have replaced 1 starter clutch,1 set clutch plates,1 cam chain,1 head stem bearing thats it beside's consumables.
And it gets ridden like a berg should.FAST

Way to go STEVE-BERG. it's good to see people putting miles on there bikes.

I bought my 2005 fs 650e last winter at 81hrs and 4400kms, I completly rebuilt the engine. piston,liner,con-rod and so on. after one year of riding on road and offroad I now have 287hrs and 13392 kms. I will be dismatling the engine this winter as a preventative measure. the last thing I want is to have my engine break down in the summer and have to wait for parts while it's nice out.

this is by far the most fun bike I have ever ridden. I still have my ninja as a track bike but I only used it once this summer as I used the berg more often.

2010 Husaberg FE 390. 2411 miles / 136 hours

Typically ridden on very tight, gnarly, technical trails. Rain, mud, sunshine, etc.
Has even been to Baja on a 5-day Baja Bound Adventures trip.
Starts hot or cold. Even in cold temps - it fires up with just a quick hit of the button. Still on stock battery and going strong.

My Swedish Girlfriend has not had one single problem and ... has ... never ... missed .... a beat.

Cheers! E-Ticket

I have a customer with a 2010 FE390 that just turned 12,000 miles. Never had a problem with the bike, valves in spec, still runs strong.
Go Husaberg!

WTH ...! What is he doing? Commuting to Spokane???? (g)

Not too many yet, only 1000. I'm hoping it will compete with my 2005 525 KTM which has over 30,000 without a rebuild or any major repair to the engine and which is still going strong. I'll hve to get back with you in a couple of years on the Husaberg.

The numbers for my 98 501 are a bit vague as it didn't have a speedo or hr meter originally, but approx 800 hr and > 33,000 kms. A broken valve seat at <> 80 hrs meant a fresh top end then with Wiseco piston. Roller followers and a camshaft at <> 200 hrs and untouched otherwise mechanically, original bottom end, clutch, cam chain etc. Switched to Delo 400 from Mobil 1 4t at the same time as the cam and followers were done and they are still OK. Followers are a 150 hr item on this model, and I let it go a bit far henc ethe need for a cam at the time.

My 07 650 is at 232 hrs and 8644 kms. Cam chain and DVSK at 156 hrs as preventative mtc, but the chain was needed. A couple of wp seals have been needed and it had some crankcase oil leaks fixed under warranty when new.

Delo 400 @ 5-7 hrs, great stuff.

Fabulous machines, but I'm also having a huge time on my Suzi, 20,000 kms this year.

My berg is @ 380 hrs.
The problems i have had are mainbearing @100hrs (probebly wrong endfloat)
@130 hrs broke an exhaust valve spring put in it DVSK and new valves just to be safe.
Then @ around 180 hrs intake cam folower and it destroyed the cam so new folowers and a cam
lose crank nut @ 280 hrs new key and threadlock. all good again.

The big end and balancer bearing are 380 hrs old. it newer stopped runnig despide all of this.

P.S i fixed all this my self so it has not been expensive. just the price of parts.

Regards

Did you have to rebuild it or was it just a precaution/something to do during the winter.

I bought the bike with a blown engine so I had to rebuid it, this winter will be precautionary I will be replacing most bearings and piston rings.

No idea. I rebuild helicopter engines for a living so these engines are'nt complicated for me. I would say it would cost about the same as a ktm because alot of there parts are interchangable. I changed the 2 crank bearings, con-rod+pin and bearing, new piston and liner, 2 cam bearings, all seals and gaskets. it cost 1200$

:D good one.
Thanks helithumper. And I am sorry for hijacking the thread for a while.

135 hrs on my 2011 TE250.

Changed piston at 120 hrs, according to the KTM mechanic who did the job I could easily have done 200 hrs before changing. Other than this, nothing replaced on the engine. The bike does 5-6 races each year.

2009 FE450 with 4,500 miles and 280 hours. Valves are still in spec. Still using the original battery and fuel pump. No issues.

My 2004 FE550 went 500hrs with only a cam chain replaced and a few seals before a valve spring went. My 2007 FE650 has 267hrs and its never been touched. I think the key to these bikes lasting is keeping the front wheel off the ground.

08 FE650, had around 100hrs on it when I got it. I believe it was totally stock. Have done 103 hrs since having a prang on it and around 6600kms. Still runs like a champ! Only maintenance I have done is oil and air filter and valve clearences.
