How do one remove and change the battery?

yes, how do you do it?
do you really need to loosen the rear shock to remove the battery?

You can do that, which is a pain, or remove the starter and solenoid and then wrestle a bit.

Still a lot easier than removing the rear shock.
 
I removed the battery on a 02 fe400e I own the other day.Remove the top shock bolt,remove the forward battery wire,remove the 2 battery box bolts.Take the battery box out(complete with battery) the back and in front of the shock to the kick start side .Takes only a couple of minutes.
 
i got mine out on my 2004 fe550 without removing any of that, was a bit of a trapeze act though.

How the heck did you do that?

Anyway, I always found the shock hard to remove, harder to remove than the starter, so to each his own, both methods work.
 
Thanks for your help!

The problem of removing the battery is now sorted out, I removed the top bolt off the rear shock!

But know I have another problem with a red and black wire that came loose... see my new question for further details... 8)
