Hey!

I have a big problem with my 650fs 2008.mod . it turns out that it's come two holes in the block of the engine.
oil comes running out from here.
these holes are microscopic . can not see them .. only see that oil is coming out !

Is there anyone who has experienced this before ? What could have happened ?

Sorry my bad english.. Google translate..

It's in the front of the engine.. The picture shows only one hole.. And thats after I had chemical on it..

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a 04-08 case crack in those spots. Are you getting a lot of metal flakes on your magnetic oil plug? If so, I'd tear that motor down to see what is going on in there. Perhaps you have a 450 liner (short) instead of a 650 and the piston cavitation caused those cracks. Perhaps you have a seriously out of round liner doing the same thing. Still, I'd think the stock liner, even out of round, would prevent that kind of damage. Any way you look at it, you need to get to the bottom of it. I wouldn't trust JB Weld to cure what ails that motor!

we had an Italian engine in a Month ago, we came to the conclusion that the cases were porous around the gearbox sprocket area. if we had held the cases in our hands we could perhaps have had the cases X-rayed but while in the bike it left us just to speculate and think that the cases are porous. 2005 BTW.

regards

Taffy

Aluminum gets porous after use very aggressive cleaning agent to clean engines.
Too much concentration or for a long time before being washed away burns aluminum.
Your cases look like after washing something corrosive.

Hi Arvid!
Give Morstad Motor, at Roa, Norway a call. He have great experience with Husabergs as he have been the Norwegian dealer for almost the whole period of Husabergs life, and have competed with this bikes himselfe. He still do some service, and repairs on them and still have a lot of parts.
If i can be at help, give me a hint.

Translated to Norwegian:

Thanks for the help everybody! :)

It's coolant and not oil that comes out yes! Like I said, I got two holes in the block.. And both of them did i fix with chemical metal. It worked for some hours of driving.. But today one of them didn't.. And it cames out again :( I changed the coolant three weeks ago .. Is there any type of coolant that can be harmful/bad for the alu engine !!?

Arild, jeg prøvde å ringe morstad motor men di har ferie til 27.juni :eek:/ han er dyktig ja!

Here's a picture from today... The hole to the right started to drain again.
I know it doesent look nice.. but this was only temporarily to see if chemical metal worked.. :) and it didn't..!! [emoji29]

engine really needs to be apart but short term you could use a radiator repair product like stop leak, chemi weld etc

there are 2 methods ive used to fix this kind of problem longer term without welding.

these assume that the problem is due to porous alloy and no a physical crack

you can if you are very patient and have some luck, locate the pinholes and drill through then tap a 3-4mm thread in and put a screw in it with loctite

the second method is less likely to damage anything but can still be done with the engine in the bike

drain all the water overnight (leave the radiator cap off whole repairing) then lay the bike on its side thoroughly degrease and rough up the area to about 30mm around each hole, drill some 3mm holes about 1mm deep to key the epoxy in the degrease again with a water based detergent (v important)

then create a formwork around it from clay and fill with a good quality epoxy/filler, you want about 10mm thick and 30mm around each hole if possible.

you can apply heat to the area keep below 40 deg though and put a light vacuum on the cooling system during curing to suck some resin into the holes.

it looks ugly till you ride through a puddle.

I will [emoji106][emoji4] i'am gonna try bar's leaks [emoji4] thanks again for the help everybody! [emoji108]

Product here in the UK called Petro Patch made by Granville. I've used it on petrol tanks, oil leaks from cases, leaking radiators on bike and in the house! Would laugh at a couple of pin holes I would think!
