Evening guys, felt it appropiate to sign up to the site as i've just been blessed with a Husaberg FX501.

A small introduction first, my name's Chris, i'm 18 and live in Dubai in the UAE. I'm finally mechanically minded so this bike's intended as a bit of a project and tidy up.

A mate's dad friend owned the bike and gave it to me and my mate who've now got the task and cleaning out the engine and getting it running and giving it a bloody good clean and repaint (it's covered in a year's worth of dust!)

So just a couple of quick questions, i'm curious about the carb, i've never seen ANYTHING like it before it all seems to be internal and the throttle isn't twisting at all so i need to free it up. I'll be stripping it tomorrow but any pointers?

It also seems to have a starter motor, but it's minus a battery pack so will be buying that tomorrow and fitting it. There's a kill switch just next to the throttle twist grip, but no starter button. Any idea where it is?!

Also heard the reliability of this bikes isn't particularly great, despite it having Ohlins rear shock, Brembos all round and WPs up front?! Can anyone verify this and tell me what to look out for?

Sorry all the rambling but i need help! This is unfamiliar territory to me!

Cheers all.

Chris

welcome to UHE

are you english?

you shouldn't need the battery on it to get it running.

simply download our owners manuals and start following the electrics through the bike. it'll be hard work.

the carb?
undo the top and the slide should come out. don't rush cleaning it. if it's covered in rubbish then leave soaked and later try and get real carb cleaning fluid and the air jet going through it's veins.

remember you need fuel and a spark and then it should run!

regards

Taffy

Cheers for the welcome Taffy and Rico.

Yeh i'm from england and return there every summer, but i was born and raised in Dubai, so never actually lived there!

Just gonna get manual downloaded now and have a look at the elecrtics. The reason i said i needed a battery Taff is because it's an electric start and not only a kick start. This an aftermarket addition d'you reckon or do they come with a starter motor as standard?

Cheers for the reply mate, will attack the carb in a minute.

Chris
