Hi everyone looking at getting a 2007 FE550E and everything i am reading is mostly positive, but am new to Euro bikes having had all Jap bikes up till now, is there anything that i should look out for? Thanks in advance for any help, and i am totally stoked and can not wait to ride this thing. :D

Here's a few things to note.
IMO,.. change the oil every 5 hours.
Check and keep the valves in spec. I use the 1/6 method and open it up every 20 hours to check.
Radiator fluid just 10mm above fins inside the cap.
If it weeps a little oil from the weep hole don't worry to much as its a Berg thing but there is a fix for this.

Sorry but isn't that a bit radical, I use a good oil and change at 20 hours, but I don't use the bike for racing.

I think with that maintenence you are going to scare the customers

The Husaberg owner's manual suggests 10 hr. oil change intervals for non-compitition riding and 5 hr. intervals for racing. The oil capacity is only .9-1 liters and I feel a lot better doing frequent changes. I changed the oil after every ride on my '96 FE501 since it did not have an oil filter - just the screen - and 8 or 9 years later when I sold it the only motor work that had been done was to adjust the valves periodically.

I have owned plenty of jap dirtbikes and streetbikes. This was my first euro bike and I absolutly love it. It's a2005 fs650e and I also have a set of dirt tires for it. It's my daily commuter, I have run over 100hrs--8500kms this year. I change the oil every 8-10 hrs on the road and after every time I go off-roading. the engines cost more to rebuild but it's worth every penny.

I use Rotella T oil its cheep and meets the Husaberg spec (one of the only oils that do) I change it every 5-10 hrs and the filter ever other oil change oil always looks brand new never any issues @ 12$ USD a gallon I dont even worry about being over protective.

if you use motored or motul synthetic you could change every 3 rides, but like most ppl on here we use dell 400 and for the price its like 8 dollars an oil change so why would you not change it every ride!!!!!

bikes are totally different to jap 2 strokes and 4 strokes they need a little more care, and once you ride one you WILL know the difference and never want to go back, chalk and cheese.

sounds like crap but once i got on mine i don't mind the regular oil changes worth every cent

I change mine every 1-2 rides so yeah roughly 5 hours. Its not hard and its cheap insurance - bit of common sense and mechanical sympathy guys.

Learn how to kick start it even when it is boiling.

Laugh at other bikes in deep water as you sail on through.

Sorry but I don't see the point of changing oil after 5 hours of riding, exept if anything goes wrong or if its in torture conditions.

You can not degrade oil that fast !!

I think the object is to keep it very clean.

Because clearances are so small, roller bearings are sensitive to any particles that would have no effect whatsoever on your typical flat (babbitt) bearings.

its up to the owner, these are the things we do, its just a guide...

yeah you can't degrade oil that quick, but these bike have tonnes of torque and seem to make a bit of metal, from gears, and other bits n pieces so keep it clean keeps the reliability up
