Hi all, i am a resident in Australia, and as some of you may have read, i will be in Hanford for 4 months. I have been looking at buying a bike while i am there to do some riding on. At the moment i have found an 03 KTM 625 SXC located in PA. The bike was plated and registered there. I can get it delivered to Hanford CA for a very respectable price. The main question i have is can this bike be registered in Cali, what things do i need to have to produce to the DMV, how do i organise insurance in Cali, and how much would all of this cost to do.

I have also found an 06 450 exc, but it is not plated. Cab this bike be plated also.

If there is any one in Cali that has a bike for sale that is plated i may interested in that also.

I will be in hanford from the 24th of march, and want to start doing some riding as soon as i can, so any help now will help me get riding quicker.

Thanks for any help.

I just plated a 04 Fe 550 in Calif. I got it out State it had been re-VIN in AZ. so it had a street title. It had more than 7500 miles on it (that a magic number)
Before you ship a bike across the country try Craigslist.org (southern calif like San Diego has lots of street legal off road bikes, Bay Area has tons of weekend bike low miles)
Sxc is a street legal in all 50 states
You should find good bike close. Then getting the paper work to keep it plated....
Thats a little work if EXC pre 07 or Off road bike but I would think the DMV in that part Calif. should be ok to deal with someone local would know.

Keep it simple.

Try to buy a bike that already has a license plate. It's very uncommon to find Husaberg's with a license plate. A few exist (like me  ) but not very many. It's remotely possible to get a license plate but depending on local state laws/loopholes it ain't easy and costs $$$.

If you buy a used bike from outside of CA and want to register/retitle it in CA make sure it already has 7500 miles on the clock, a license plate and current registration.

I will have to verify it, but, I am pretty sure that it can have less than 7500 miles, but, must have been street licensed in another state for at least 18 or 24 months.

Like supertire guy said, the easiest solution is to find one already plated in California. I can't remember your previous post on the subject, but, it will also depend on what kind of riding you are going to be doing here. If it's a lot of road riding you'll want a bike that's intended for that, more off road etc.... If it's more off road then the 450 that pollo mentioned might be just what the doctor ordered.
