Hi all,I’m Dave .....I have an fs650 I acquired from a good friend. There’s a lot of time and money in it but due to an attempted theft it had sat up for the last year or so. I have several other bikes,and honestly had no need for this,however after pulling it out of the shed last Sunday,having it ready to run for Monday ,I am now addicted

So the deal so far,stale juice left me with a slight miss just off idle,this has cleaned up with a tank of fresh fuel.

Monday was the day of the misfire and also adjusting to the seating position and handling.

Tuesday morning it stalled out near the house...thinking I had to do the walk of shame back home it suddenly occurred to me I had left the taps switched offGot that sorted,then the battery started crying enough but jut when I thought she wouldn’t fire,up she went,bike drove fine,no stalls and was quite enjoyable,however when I got to work parked it up I noticed a few drops of oil,seeing as it wasn’t all bad I gave it a good pasting going home.

Wednesday morning I realized the oil leak was a bit more than a few drops,decided not to risk it and took a different bike.

Thursday I striped it back a little,found a leak around the cam cover one the breather pipe was loose...tightened up and brought it for a test spin. After start up it began the stalling at idle *****,thought ok let’s see can we get some charge into it...got to the entrance of the estate and badump,no more electricity so the walk of shame was had!!!

Today,battery charged,standing at 13.3v....fires up like a champ,no stalls....but no charging

I drive about 50 different bikes on an average week,I’ve owned probably 100 or so over the years,but never a Berg,if any other bike gave me this kind of **** I’d sell the *******,however I have fallen deeply in love with this pile of scrap,it’s broken more than it’s ran,but it’s worth it when it does

They call them the FS650e but really it should be the FFS 650!!!!! coz that's what i shout at mine!!!!

name the year mate and also....welcome to UHE!!!

a 2003 has a round ignition cover and 3 screws. 2003 = 3.

the 2004 cover is many sided and has 4 screws. 2004 = 4.

let us know 100%

the solenoid is in charge of charging. check whether it is still the original 4-pin into it or a home made 4 x single male spades. then you have the solenoid itself and whether it is the original as they all look the same but there are 20 varieties.

So mine is a bit of a ******* bike...I believe the frame is 2004 but the various other parts are whatever the previous owner could source to have it somewhat period correct.

There are 4 pins on the solenoid but only 3 wires in use. I did find 1 yellow wire at the ignition had bad contact,repaired this and charging has resumed. Then it stalled out again on me,further investigation discovered I have a collapsed fuel line. It looks like the routing is a bit sketchy and likely cause,can someone show me the fuel hose routing,I suspect this is not quite right,thanks all

Welcome. I'm down in Cork. There are a few pre-2009 Bergs down around here. Give a shout if you're ever down this way. Good luck with the 650! :cool:

only 3 are used on that solenoid.

with 'M' then 'B' so you can see them the right way up (and above the letters) your three wires should be;

bottom left - red/white
bottom right - black
top left - nowt
top right - red/yellow

Thank you Taffy,I will check that out,there a number stamped in front of the subframe HB04....does this correspond with it being a 2004?

This week has been great,bike is running 99%....bit of a mis with 50% throttle or more when I’m going straight from idle...I’ll mess about with the mixture and see can I tune it out of it.

@mcljot,appreciate that,never know,I tend to use the bigger bikes for the long runs but I may stick the burg in a van at some point to do the ring of Kerry etc.
