0844 Recieved a text from Robbo, " Good day for it ". Wheeled outta bed stepped outside, cool overcast conditions, threatening to shower. Cool ! Shower and coffee.

0910 Robbo arrives, gear up then down the main drag for a parade lap. Fill up at BP servo on the way out to mossman hall.

0930 Hit the trails, no rain yet but good weather for it none the less. Having excellent time, found some rock ledges and break away gullies to climb, some fire trails then single track, then back to the gnarly little gullies. 8)

1030 FUGG another coolant explosion.... Robbo takes off on the mercy dash.

1033 Busting for a sheyte, no friggen bog roll grass will do... 07072010.jpg[/attachment:qicfusu9]

1045 Order a copper head gasket fromm Husaberg Valley Force while waiting for rescue vehicle. $AUD52.00 including postage, sweet :D. Its at the oither end of the country.

1055 Load up head to town, complete compulsory lap of shame.

1110 Wash down and begin stripping tank etc.

1200 Got her down, confirmed that the cam was replaced. Head gasket is fugged. Checked sealing sufaces for warpage, all good. Stange oval mark on head sealing surface, goes right across water port.07072010(002).jpg[/attachment:qicfusu9]

1200 and 30 seconds: Rain. Perfect light shower, followed by a second light shower, just enough to snuff the dust :cuss: :cuss:

1230 Sitting in the shed sulking and drinking xxxx :cry:07072010(001).jpg[/attachment:qicfusu9]

1300 Its precipitating again, what I like to call angel piss very light misty rain.....   Sitting in the shed still being a UHE tragic

Hey davo it only took 2 good QUEENSLAND MEN, 3 beers total to strip the 00 machine.

Hey Berglsmerg, just wondering, were you sulking because you had to drink xxxx :( :( or because the Berg broke down.
Anyhoo seriously, You need to be 100% sure the head is still dead flat even more critical with a copper gasket. Hope you get the problem sorted.

Steve

ouch

who was the cheap arsed wonker who decided liquid cooled single cylinder engines need to have the block and water passages join through the headgasket :?

we should have closed deck heads and blocks with bolt on U pipes to take the water around the headgasket then it only has to do one job not 2.

MLS gaskets suck! usually nothing wrong woth most fibre ones .... just made up my version of an SCE titan in copper will see how it goes

Sad to hear your bike is off the road again berglsmerg. Sounds like it is going to blow another head gasket unless you fix the Coolant explosion problem. What do you reckon is causing that?

On a lighter note I can see the strategically placed can of Draino on the Arm Chair :D :D :D
Is it safe to open the photo under the 10:33am report ? Too much info for me :?

@Davo ha ha ha if its draino why did I feel the effects before ? 1033 is G rated nothing to see there... the head gasket if fingered I will post a pic soon.

@bushie copy that it would solve so many dramas, its a really good idea thats why nobody does it.

@steve not sulking for xxxx (changed to bundy now) sulking about the perfect riding weather going to waste, I had the straight edge across it and it is straight, but it will go on the glass if only to clean it up.

every head gasket leak we have seen, which is about 10 now, it has leaked between the laminates at the water jacket port on the inlet side of the head, exactly like your photo

never a single leak with the solid copper one now

Thats why MLS are flawed its the Multi layer bit that presents more places for water to end up leaking. if there are 4 layers you've got 5 problems, with a single layer 2 problems. that and hard steel not crushing means they are relying on pre applied viton sealant and crinkly thin steel to keep the water where it should go.

drag racers are slowly going back to copper as there is a feeling MLS gaskets are limiting their alowable boost.

Gazza zero failures is awesome, do you put those copper gaskets in dry or with some sealant?

Copy that bushie, the gasket leaked on the other side of that water port as well. I was gunna glue the gasket on with a bit 'o grey ThreeBond or perhaps a spritzing of hylomar. Anyway I need to get the valves out to deck the head, replace the lower shock heim joint, grease and reseal wheel and head stem bearings and check my water pump impellor.
I was thinking about giving the ports a bit of a clean up, just to remove the cast marks, the bowl area looks alright to my untrained eye as well as the valve guides being pretty well blended from the factory.

As for hot starting woes I think the new head gasket will go a long way to addressing that problem. One of the exhaust valves is coated in a black "oily" substance ( the exhaust valve that is on the down hill side when the bike is on the stand) the other valves I have managed to lightly etch :( into the deposits with an offcut of lock wire.

None of this will happen untill tuesday, I'm at the Townsville 400 this weekend. Go Loundsey !
